Kileekie Farm sits above Crosshill in south Ayrshire, in the old district of Carrick, where Andrew and Serena Sykes have farmed as a family partnership since 2011.
They breed Traditional (OP) Herefords, the original population of the breed, unmixed with imported bloodlines and listed as At Risk on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Watchlist. The farm keeps them for genetic conservation and as producers of pasture fed beef, reared on grass, in the open, at each animal's own pace.
Kileekie is a Pasture for Life certified farm: the cattle eat grass and forage their whole lives and nothing else, and the herd is chemical free, managed for the health of the pasture as much as the stock. Beef is sold direct as 10kg mixed boxes of 100% pasture fed Traditional Hereford beef, butchered and vacuum packed, at 175 pounds a box. The farm also sells registered pedigree breeding stock and frozen Hereford genetics from its SRUC accredited, parentage verified herd.
