This is my second trip to Portnellan Farm to hire kayaks. I promised myself last time I would extend the length of time to 4 hours and it was well worth it. My son and I managed to cover 13 km weaving through islands and ending up at Milarrochy Bay before following the shoreline down to Balmaha and then back through the southern islands. View of Conic Hill from the Loch are outstanding (sorry no photos). Chris was very friendly and helpful as ever ensuring we were safe and prepared for an afternoon on the water. Thanks again Chris.
Amazing place.
We were very lucky with the weather. The family on this farm are very nice, its an eco working farm. We used their boat hire service. The family are very happy to help or tell you about the farm. It's clean and welcoming. I'd be very happy to come again and highly recommend it.
Arranged a last minute kayak hire from portnellan farm. Was able to call up at 12: 30pm on a Sunday and was out in a kayak two hours later. Fantastic customer service. We enjoyed a paddle to a nearby beach for a picnic and would highly recommend.
Chris and David where amazing they couldn't of done more, from launching/retrieving our boat to all their advise and help to us novice boaters we really appreciated it, the mooring is in a stunning and quiet part of Loch Lomond we will definitely back back with our boat, thanks again.
Rebuilding the food system, from the farm up
We rang yesterday morning to ask if we could hire some kayaks for the same day. They sorted us out straight away. They were very friendly when we arrived and quickly got us into the kayaks. They also showed us a nice beach we could kayak to. Would 100% recommend.
We stayed for a week in August 2025 and had the most perfect week of weather. We had great communication from Freda in advance of our stay and arrived at 4pm to a warm welcome and the stunning view. Freda, David and their family made us feel so welcome and were really friendly. The accommodation was perfect for us with all rooms overlooking the view. The bedrooms are generous and comfortable and the kitchen and sitting room make for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cooking equipment. We had a speedboat tour with Chris and hired kayaks on another day which made the experience even more magic. We've decided to book again for new year and are looking forward to our return to one of our favourite places. Edit: We loved Portnellan Farm so much we returned for a post Christmas week away. We were so warm and cozy that we never needed to light the fire. The only drawback of being there at that time of year is that you don't get to speak with Freda, David and their family as much as we weren't sat on the deck. We'll be back. Not sure when but we will be.
