Balsar Glen at Littleton Farm, Turnberry is the Close family's regenerative South Ayrshire farm raising 100% grass fed Aberdeen Angus and Hereford beef, with box sales currently paused.
Balsar Glen is the Close family's cattle farm at Littleton Farm, Turnberry, on the South Ayrshire coast.
Father and daughter Philip and Heather Close raise hardy Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cattle that live outdoors all year round, grazing wildflower rich meadows, hedgerows and trees. The herd moves onto fresh grass regularly, often more than once a day, mimicking wild herd movement, with long rests between grazings. No fertilisers are used and the cattle are never fed soy or grain, producing well marbled 100% grass fed beef with creamy yellow fat.
The family describe themselves as soil farmers as much as cattle farmers, and are members of the SAC Premium Cattle Health Scheme. Beef boxes are paused at present while the herd grows, though pedigree Aberdeen Angus, Herefords and crosses are occasionally for sale, and a newsletter announces when seasonal beef returns.
