The best farms

  1. 1Waltham PlaceWaltham PlaceFarm shop in Maidenhead4.8 (70 reviews)Waltham Place is an organic and biodynamic estate at White Waltham near Maidenhead, where the farm, kitchen garden, orchards and ornamental gardens are run as one living whole. The livestock are slower growing rare breeds, with free range organic pork and 100% grass fed biodynamic lamb, mutton and beef reared on the estate. The seasonal farm shop runs from mid June to December, selling freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, raw Jersey milk, apple juice from the ancient orchards, homemade jams and chutneys, and flour from spelt and emmer grown and ground at Waltham. Raw milk is collected on shop days and is best pre ordered.
  2. 2Town FarmTown FarmButcher in Marlow4.9 (60 reviews)Town Farm, or Towan Fferm, sits in the Berkshire village of Bisham on the River Thames near Marlow, and has stood for just over 400 years, with the history still visible in the main farmhouse and surrounding buildings. The family rear most of what they sell themselves, keeping cows, sheep, chickens and pigs as well as pheasant and rabbit. The little farm shop sells fresh and frozen beef, lamb, pork and chicken, with pheasant when in season, plus dairy and a few vegetables. What is not their own comes from local suppliers such as the award winning Laceys milk and cream. The shop opens Friday and Saturday, and frozen produce and eggs are available all week, just pop in and put the money in the tin.
  3. 3Farncombe FarmFarncombe FarmFarm shop in Hungerford4.3 (27 reviews)Farncombe Farm is a family run farm in Berkshire, farmed by Liz and John Brunskill and in the family since the 1900s. Seventeen years ago they turned the whole farm over to conservation farming, planting pastures with old fashioned grass varieties and working without chemical fertilisers or pesticides ever since. The farm sells Brunskill Beef, one hundred per cent grass fed and fully traceable, direct from the farm on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. There is also a small campsite, a Camping and Caravanning Club certificated site since 1994.
