The best farms

  1. 1A woman sitting on straw in the barn with two goat kids and their bottlesMonach FarmRaw milk & meat · Huntingdon4.7 (56 reviews)Monach Farm is a family run livestock farm at Hilton near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, rearing sheep, cattle and goats slowly and traditionally. The meat is individually priced and sold frozen, and the range takes in lamb, hoggett and mutton, grass reared beef and lean kid goat, along with unpasteurised goat milk fresh to order and goat milk ice cream. There is always someone around at the farm, so you can come through the little gate and up to the yard, or order by email, text or WhatsApp. The farm also makes goats milk soap and a range of gifts, and sells logs for wood burners and garden manure besides.
  2. 2Flourish ProduceFlourish ProduceFarm shop · Cambridge4.5 (30 reviews)Flourish Produce is a regenerative farm in South Cambridgeshire, between the villages of Hildersham and Linton along the River Granta. The farm grows a broad mix of vegetables, herbs, salads, fruit, flowers and heritage grains, favouring heirloom and rare varieties chosen for flavour and resilience, and works in a way that avoids synthetic inputs and encourages wildlife. Produce goes to restaurants and independent shops as well as households across Cambridgeshire and London. Weekly produce boxes are delivered overnight to the door or collected from local collection points, and the Flourish Farm Shop is at Cooks Pen Farm in Hildersham.
  3. 3A young Jersey calf standing beside its mother on a bed of strawMerton DairyRaw milk, meat, fruit & veg · Cambridge5 (3 reviews)Merton Dairy is a small raw milk dairy run from Hawthorn Farm just outside Cambridge. The Jersey cows are kept on a calf at foot system, so calves stay with their mothers and are not weaned until four to five months old, and the herd is milked just once a day so the cows are never overworked. The raw Jersey milk is sold for collection only, straight from the farm. New customers are asked to get in touch first through the website, the farm's Facebook page, or by emailing or phoning Sarah at the dairy. Demand is strong and the dairy has at times been sold out of milk altogether, so check before you set off.
  4. 4Long Meadow BeefLong Meadow BeefMeat · ELYLong Meadow Beef is a small family farm in Little Downham, Cambridgeshire, raising a herd of Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cattle born and bred in the village. The beef is 100% grass fed and certified by Pasture for Life, which guarantees the cattle eat nothing but pasture, hay and haylage for their whole lives, unlike beef simply labelled grass fed. The herd grazes the fields around Little Downham for most of the year and winters in airy straw bedded barns on the farm's own hay and haylage. The family has planted trees and miles of new hedging and dug a wildlife scrape. Beef is sold direct from the farm at 100 Main Street one Saturday every month, with no middlemen: email to pre order from the price list, or just turn up on the day and choose from what is available. The beef is hung on the bone to dry age, then butchered using traditional methods into an excellent range of cuts. Catherine and Abi run the sales and a WhatsApp group shares sale updates.

What visitors say

  • Monach Farm

Excellent riding school with friendly, patient, and professional instructors. The horses are well cared for, and the atmosphere is welcoming. My daughter always enjoys her lessons and gains confidence and new skills every time. I highly recommend Monach Farm to anyone wanting to learn or improve their horse riding.

  • Flourish Produce

Natural grown food. Beautiful people behind the project, putting in great values.

  • Merton Dairy

Fabulous milk, from cows that keep their calves with them after birth (unlike standard dairy farms). I've been drinking their milk daily for at least 5 years. Occasionally there is beef and lamb available too, which is also delicious!
