Moved from Kent to Pembrokeshire with Debbie in September 2017 and now breeds the farm's pedigree Red Ruby Devon herd.
Treathro Farm is a 170 acre working beef farm on the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales, breeding pedigree Red Ruby Devon cattle that are 100% pasture fed and PFLA certified.
David and Debbie moved from Kent to Pembrokeshire in September 2017 and have farmed at Treathro ever since.
It is a 170 acre working beef farm on the coast near Strumble Head, with about 110 acres of pasture grazed by the cattle or cut for hay and silage to feed them through the winter. The herd is pedigree Red Ruby Devon, a native breed that finishes well on grass, and the first eight cows arrived in November 2017. The animals are fed nothing but grass and the hay and silage made in the farm's own fields, and they live outdoors all year apart from exceptional winter weather.
The farm is certified under the Pasture Fed Livestock Association for 100% pasture fed meat and under Farm Assured Welsh Livestock (Red Tractor), and the cattle are managed under the Premium Cattle Health Scheme. David and Debbie farm at low intensity, so every animal has plenty of space and the cattle are left to mature slowly rather than pushed to gain weight quickly. Their beef is hung for three weeks and jointed by a local butcher, and the farm is listed as a meat producer with Pasture for Life. In July 2024 they sold their flock of Lleyn sheep to concentrate on the cattle, and they let two converted farm buildings, the Granary and the Dairy, as holiday cottages on the same site.

A Perfect Family Getaway – Unforgettable Stay at Treathro Farm Our stay at The Granary, Treathro Farm in May 2024 was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and at home, thanks to the incredible hospitality of our hosts, David and Debbie. Their warmth and attentiveness made all the difference, creating an experience that we will cherish forever. This was, without a doubt, the most child-friendly place we’ve ever stayed. Every little detail was thoughtfully designed with families in mind – from the safety gate at the stairs to the abundance of toys that kept the kids entertained for hours. Our one-year-old could explore freely and safely, and it brought us immense peace of mind. The farm offered so much for everyone in our group, from the kids to us and even the grandparents. A gentle walk along the coast starting right from the farm was a highlight, made even easier with the baby carrier provided by David and Debbie. The trail was easy and accessible – perfect for all ages and fitness levels. The joy didn’t stop there. Meeting the farm animals was such a treat, and the atmosphere felt so peaceful and wholesome. Our elder son still fondly remembers playing at the beach with a set David and Debbie kindly lent him – a small gesture that made our visit even more special. If you’re looking for a serene, family-friendly retreat surrounded by nature, Treathro Farm is the place to be. We left with full hearts and unforgettable memories, already dreaming of when we can return.
