Walter Rose & Son is a family run heritage butcher on Sidmouth Street in Devizes, Wiltshire, trading since 1847 and granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria in 1887.
Stephen Cook bought the shop in 1976 after training at Smithfield College, and his sons Jack and Charlie now run the business alongside him. Behind the shop and delicatessen sits an EU licensed cutting plant that supplies restaurants and delivers across the UK, mostly in the company's own refrigerated vans.
The meat comes from the same local farms the family has worked with for over forty years. Most of the beef is Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cross cattle from Tim Johnson at Stokes Marsh Farm in Coulston, where the herd lives outside all year and everything the cattle eat is grown on the farm. Pork comes from Cameron and Muriel Naughton at West End Farm in Bishops Cannings, most of the lamb from the Clothier family's farm near Bath, and the free range chicken and duck are slow grown and dry plucked by Creedy Carver in Devon.
