Grassroots Farm & Dairy is a small scale, grass based sheep dairy in Marshall, North Carolina.
On 25 acres of hill pasture bought in 2015, the farm renovated an old cow dairy into a Grade A certified facility, carrying on the small dairying tradition of Madison County. The flock of around 50 East Friesian, Lacaune and Tunis cross ewes is rotationally grazed onto fresh pasture every day, with a non GMO supplement in the parlor, and the farm is proudly predator friendly, trusting electric fences and three Great Pyrenees guardian dogs instead of traps or guns.
Milking runs from April to October. The farm offers raw sheep milk through herdshares under the NC Herdshare Law, alongside Grade A sheep milk yogurt, labneh, feta and brebis. Find them at the North Asheville Tailgate Market on Saturdays, the River Arts District market on alternating Wednesdays, and in local stores.

I didn't get to visit/your the facility itself, altho I'd LOVE to tour their beautiful farm& but directly from them rather than the store, but close enough! I had been looking everywhere for sheep's milk, sheep's milk cheeses, sheep's milk yogurt, butter, etc! Luckily I stumbled across Grassroots Farm& Dairys sheep's milk yogurt, which I e never had the pleasure in all my 56years. I am smitten to put it mildly. Thank you so much to the fine generous folks at Grassroots who choose to share their abundance with those of us who cannot access these things quite so easily. On a side note. I especially Love using this yogurt for my banana bread. It adds such a wonderful flavor & helps it maintain such a wonderful moist yet fluffy texture. It's not the same without their excellent yogurt. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏✌🏼🥛🐑🐏🐑
