Green Family Farms is what its owners call an open door farm, a working farm in Commerce, Texas that welcomes visitors rather than keeping the gate shut.
The family has been farming for over 20 years, and the farm sits about an hour and twenty minutes from Dallas, which makes it an easy countryside day out.
There is a farm market and store on site, plus a small cafe lounge where you can sit with a drink while children play in the yard between the animals and the seating. Visitors can book a guided farm tour, meet the animals or arrange a farm stay, and an online market page covers shopping after hours.

This place is absolutely magical. A worthwhile stop if you're in the area, or even for an excursion. We ended up purchasing some steaks, and the woman working inside had the coolest story as to how she chose her particular variety of cattle. We even got to feed the goats too.
Regenerative farming at its finest!
We are digital nomads staying for a week on the farm. Today we had the pleasure to take a farm tour, and was provided with farm raised goatmilk latte and simple farm to table brunch after. It was such a amazing experience. Sandra is clearly knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about natural regenerative farming. Her animals are happy and well cared for. Similar to the philosophy prompted by the book "braiding sweet grass", Sandra strives for and preaches a reciprocal and symbiotic relationship with her land. Her farm is evidently a testament of her values. It's a labor of love. Highly recommend the tour and highly recommend the super reasonably priced Airbnb, especially for digital nomads like us. Being waking up by rooster and sitting on the porch watching the sun glide across sky is everything you imagined a farm stay would feels like.
