The only way to get raw milk in Virginia is through owning a share of the herd, so the farm runs a dairy share: members buy into the herd of Jersey cows with a one time fee, pay a monthly boarding fee for their care, and collect half a gallon of fresh, local, raw A2A2 milk each week. Members who prefer other dairy can swap their weekly share for butter, cream, yogurt, cottage cheese or chocolate milk at no extra cost.
The farm side, Hickory Nut Farm, grows nutrient dense produce using organic practices, building its soil with cover crops, rock and sea minerals and compost. A fall CSA brings twelve weeks of vegetable boxes with cabbage, carrots, lettuce, kale, spinach and much more, with eggs and extra produce as add ons. Pick up runs Wednesday and Saturday mornings at the farm, with an open market on Saturdays.
