The best farms

  1. 1Gutchpool FarmGutchpool FarmButcher in Gillingham5 (23 reviews)Gutchpool Farm at Gillingham in Dorset raises sheep on a regenerative, grass based system. The flock is Pasture for Life certified, reared on a 100% grass fed diet and grazed on a diverse mix of pasture managed without artificial chemicals, which the farm credits for the flavour, quality and texture of its lamb and hogget. Lamb and hogget boxes come in three sizes and are sold online, while individual cuts can be bought and collected from the farm, where the shop is open every day except Sunday (ring the bell if no one is about). The farm also runs a bed and breakfast and a wool studio selling knit kits.
  2. 2Tamarisk Farm ShopTamarisk Farm ShopButcher in Dorchester4.9 (24 reviews)Tamarisk Farm is an organic farm at West Bexington on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, near Bridport, run so that farming and wildlife sit side by side. The beef, lamb, hogget and mutton is slow matured on grass and herbs, 100% grass fed and finished under the Pasture for Life scheme. Meat boxes and individual cuts are sold through the online shop and from the farm, along with stoneground flours, wholegrain cereals and pulses, seasonal vegetables and salad, pastured eggs, undyed knitting wool and natural sheepskins. The shop opens on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
  3. 3Dreamers FarmDreamers FarmRaw milk farm in Gillingham5 (12 reviews)Dreamers Farm is Simon and Kate Oakley's small farm at Bowridge Hill near Gillingham in Dorset, where around 20 Jersey cows are milked two at a time in the parlour, morning and evening. The cows graze meadow grass through the summer and winter in the barn on hay and silage made on the farm. The milk is bottled on the farm and sold whole and untreated, currently in one litre bottles. Around 60 free range hens live in grass paddocks and provide traditional free range eggs, and orders are placed through the farm's website.
