Orange, Lemon & Basil Adrenal Cocktail

Your grandparents didn’t know what an electrolyte sachet was, because this is what they drank instead. Freshly squeezed oranges and lemon, sparkling water, a pinch of salt and basil from the garden.

The natural sugars in the citrus are far more hydrating than plain water. They help carry sodium and minerals into the cells and it's the same reason hospitals don't drip plain water into dehydrated patients. They use salt and glucose, but your grandparents just used an orange.

People travelled across Europe for centuries to drink from natural carbonated mineral springs, long before anyone understood why they made them feel better. And the CO2 isn't just bubbles, it supports circulation and helps the body absorb what's in the glass.

A pinch of good salt to tie it all together. And basil to finish, naturally sweet, it softens the sharpness of the citrus and pulls the whole thing together.

Ingredients

  • 2-4 Oranges juiced
  • ½ - 1 Whole Lemon juiced
  • Sparkling Water (As much as you prefer!)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Couple of sprigs of basil

Method

  1. First, juice your oranges and lemon. I always pick my favourite glass to make this drink feel even more fun!

  2. Add a good amount of sparkling water. You can put as much as you like here, I tend to just fill the rest of the glass.

  3. Add a pinch of sea salt and a sprig basil. Give it a good stir. Feel free to add some ice too, if its a super hot day.

  4. Garnish with some basil and you’re enjoy!
