H.S. Bourne
H.S. Bourne makes award winning Cheshire cheese, including a raw milk clothbound Cheshire, on the family farm at The Bank, Malpas, where their own Friesian herd supplies the milk. Since 1750.
The Bourne family has been making Cheshire cheese since 1750, and today makes it at The Bank in Malpas, the family home since 1930, where their herd of Friesian cows grazes the surrounding land and provides the milk for every cheese.
Unlike industrial producers they still work with traditional hands on techniques, and they refuse to sell their cheese young, maturing it slowly until it tastes the way real Cheshire should. The family describes itself as the last traditional maker of clothbound Cheshire cheese still working within Cheshire itself.
The range runs from an award winning unpasteurised clothbound Cheshire, made with raw milk, through Blue Cheshire, Mrs Bourne's Mature, Oak Smoked, Red Cheshire and the 1845 Heritage Cheshire launched in October 2025. The cheeses have taken medals at the British Cheese Awards, the World Cheese Awards and the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, including Best Cheshire in 2024. Buy direct from the farm, at monthly farmers markets across Cheshire and the Wirral, in farm shops and delis across the UK, or by mail order.

Haven't eaten the cheese yet but I know it will be wonderful as per.
Fantastic farm Cheshire Cheese the last producer.
Took trouble to find place in middle of nowhere. Door open no humans and no cheese. Left disappointed.
I love the mature Cheshire cheese.Last bought last weekend, doesn't last long in our house.Bought it many times over the years from steam rallies etc. They have been on TV, with Michael Portillo, so very popular.
