Recently bought a buckfast queen and currently have another one on order. Absolutely faultless!! Within 10 days of introducing the queen to the colony she was accepted and laying fresh eggs. Delivery was exactly as stated, arrived by 10am next day. I will be continuing to buy from Lawrence and the team at BMH.
I bought a nuke from Black Mountain Honey this Spring (as wasps wiped out my hives last summer) It is been a fantastic colony -its on double brood and as I have constantly made sure the queen has enough space to lay, they have not attempted to swarm (yet) I have already taken off 3 very full supers. They are beautiful tempered bees & very hard working. I would recommend them to anyone starting out.
BMH is my go-to for advice on beekeeping, though it's worth looking at other sites; but beware as many are not in the UK and so their advice may differ for obvious reasons like climate. I've kept bees since June 2025, and it's been a learning curve for sure. My advice is to subscribe to 14DBK because you can watch it time and time again, and the HiveQ forum for comments and questions to and from other beekeepers. Also, join a local beekeeper group, because you may need a hand at times and much as Laurence is undoubtedly a wizard, he can't be with you in person and a bee-buddy can. It can be a roller-coaster at times, and one-to-one support helps. So good luck, and happy beekeeping!
Ordered an Over Winter Nuk Colony off Lawrence which arrived 30th April 26 as described on time. Communications fast and reliable supported with excellent You Tube assistance for ongoing care of the bees from the start. The bees are beautiful and calm, settled quickly and oh my on my 3rd super already packed with honey. Bee numbers increasing rapidly. Really pleased!! Would definitely use Lawrence again. Outstanding service and clearly someone who cares about bees. 🐝 Thank you so much Lawrence.
Rebuilding the food system, from the farm up

Had a nuc off Laurence at BMH on 30th April. The Queen has been amazing. In just 2 months I have done been able to do split and introduce another Queen and my parent hive is double brood with 3 supers. I didn’t think I would be able to take any honey this year with a new colony but just done an inspection this morning and they are doing amazing. One super fully capped with the other two going very well. Would highly recommend the overwintered nucs.
Bought 2 over wintered nucs which we received end of May time. Arrived perfect. Transferred into there hives the same afternoon and they are thriving. Currently have one hive with nearly 2 full supers on and today have fitted a third super to my second hive. Very very calm bees, we only used smoke on the first inspection and found this annoyed them a little and since then we only light the smoker as a precaution but have not needed to use it. My wife sits next to them most days working from a coffee table next to them. As for black mountain Laurence has been superb all the way through. I’ve sent him so many emails it’s embarrassing but he relays to vey one of them with a day, sometimes hours.
BMH has made my journey into beekeeping so much easier, more relaxing, and with less risk. Laurences video helps with my knowledge and understanding, and they are always there to ask questions if you’re unclear. My NUC arrived on the 15th May, today (29 June) I have managed to split (another queen from BMH), and have 2 supers full of honey. If your going to take up beekeeping or want amazing honey - BMH is the place.
Fantastic Nuc of bees, arrived early on delivery day. Put them in the hive the next morning so calm and easy to inspect. Everything I hoped for from BMH bees. After 3 weeks they are covering 80% of the frames and have the first super put on...
Received my overwintered nuc around the middle of April, arrived unharmed was securely packaged. and the bees are doing fantastic, super calm. I didn't quite believe the hype on how chill these bees are, but they are living up to it. 14DBK - bought when it first launched and its been invaluable, books although useful lack the ability to watch someone actually do what they teach. 14DBK + the YouTube channel's new direction to more education is all anyone needs to start beekeeping.
