Hepple Estate

Since 2020 the family has moved the land from a large sheep flock, a shoot and a timber business to a managed wilding programme, keeping light grazing from cattle and ponies at the heart of it. The estate still produces a small quantity of beef, venison and wild game, and it is a Pasture for Life certified producer for its cattle. The Robson family, farming at Hepple Whitefield since 1952, run the grazing.

Visitors come for guided walks, Land Rover safaris and small group experiences led by the resident ecologist, with 80 percent of the estate open access. Hepple is also home to the Hepple Spirits distillery, where gin is made with botanicals harvested on the hill. The estate describes its move to organic and grass fed farming as part of regenerating the whole landscape, from peat bogs to heathland birds.
