The Isla Vista Food Co-op is a community owned grocery store in Isla Vista, California selling organic and local food; it is a retail co-op, not a working farm.
The Isla Vista Food Co-op is Santa Barbara County's only community owned grocery store, founded in 1972 by students and Isla Vista residents who wanted their neighbourhood to always have access to good, affordable food.
Anyone can shop and anyone can join, with around 1,400 owners sharing a say in how the store is run.
The shop covers fresh produce, grocery staples, a deli, bulk foods, beer and wine and wellness, leaning towards local, organic and seasonal food from Santa Barbara County farmers and producers. It is open to the public every day, and the Save the Coop campaign is currently rallying support to secure its future.

The tuna sandwich with apples slices is so good. Need.
They make fire hummus.
Berries have a lot of mold. They don’t restock their berries often from the times I visit but that may just be a timing thing. But even then, their berries have mold growing. I learned my lesson and should check more often but this has been the case many times. Overall, great place to do shopping for groceries and this is in no way to bash them. But they should be aware of what they’re putting up.
