Winter Hill Farm

Winter Hill Farm was a gem of a find during our weekend quest for local, farm-fresh meat. November isn’t exactly prime time for farm stands, so stumbling onto their self-serve setup felt like hitting the jackpot. The dirt road leading there had us guessing what we’d find, but their cozy little stand was fully stocked with everything from meats to cheeses, yogurt, and milk. We picked up a couple of pounds of veal shanks, and they turned into one of the best stews we’ve ever made. The quality of the meat was unreal and made all the difference. We also grabbed some cheeses, which we haven’t tried yet, but I’m already excited for that. The setup is straightforward: prices are clearly marked on each package, and they make payment easy with cash or Venmo. They even had detailed descriptions of each cheese, which was such a thoughtful touch — it helped us pick out exactly what we wanted. I can’t wait to head back and buy more of their meats. Definitely worth the visit!

We followed the rocky dirt road to this cute self-serve farm store (CA$H only with some change available) in search of meats & milk and we were generously rewarded on both fronts. Unfortunately I forgot to get more cash so we had to limit our selections. I went with a half gallon of raw milk (rilk) for $4.50 (steal!) & a lb each of ground beef & ground veal. We cheffed up some tacos w/ the beef & it was fantastic- not greasy & very beefy. The milk was glorious with a deep creamline- not too thick & tasting traditionally good. I’ve never had nor heard of Randall cows.. apparently they are rare & almost were depleted & they have VT origins? Im still learning.. anyway thanks Winter Hill we’ll be back with more cash for steaks.

Delicious cheese! We stopped by the farm stand while passing through the area. The Frost Gully camembert-style cheese was amazing. If I'm in the area again or see it in a shop I will definitely buy more. I also got the Terzetto, which I have not yet tried but look forward to. The farm dogs are very sweet. I was hoping to see the cows, but I think they were off grazing on a pasture out of sight. A month or so back I tried to visit line backs at a dairy in Vermont and they were out of sight as well. I'm starting to think lineback cows are introverts!

We got a chance to taste one of there cheese in a local brewery. Once tasted we had to stop at the farm What a wonderful place and lovely staff. The cheese is beyond perfection. You need to stop there to get you cheese fix folks! For the rest we will schedule another trip in Maine just to stop by again.
