It's my first time drinking goats milk 😁 I thought it would be nasty 🤢 but was actually very good. The goat cheese is excellent, can't wait to try goat yogurt 😀
I've been interested in drinking raw milk for quite some time, but only recently became aware of the existence of herdshare programs. There are only a handful of herdshare operations in my area and I checked out each of the websites. D & L Meadows website was by far the most extensive and I appreciated reading about the sanitation requirements. However, I was somewhat hesitent about goat milk. But I did some research on the Michigan State University Extension website, and it said that goat milk was more easily digestible than cows milk. That was a plus. So, I requested a tour of the farm and met Dirk the owner. It was cold that day and Dirk brought me to the barn - more like a greenhouse really - where the goats were inside feeding. There was plenty of clean, fresh straw on the ground, alfalfa hay in the troughs, and probably about 30 or 40 clean goats of various breeds. At that time, hot water was being added to water buckets to keep the water at a warmer temperature. If I were a goat, I'd say that was pretty nice treatment. Anyway, they seemed happy enough. That day, I entered into the herdshare agreement with Dirk (and his wife Laura) and brought home my first gallon of goat milk. The taste was very slightly different than cows milk, but by the second gallon, it tasted completely normal. I am very satisfied with my goat milk.

From cheese to soap, each item is a testament to the care and dedication put into their production. Delightful working dairy goat farm. Animals are happy and healthy, well fed and well taken care of. Owner/operators know their animals, often by name. Magnificent, well-run operation - and I got to feed a baby goat!
