Nick Nolan
Farmer and cheesemaker
Grandson of Betty and Fuzzy Cook, who bought the farm in 1947. Moved back with his family in 2001 and turned the dairy into a farmstead creamery.
Laurel Valley Creamery is the Nolan family's grass based Jersey dairy in Gallipolis, Ohio, making naturally aged raw milk farmstead cheese sold at Athens farmers market and area shops.
Laurel Valley Creamery is the Nolan family's farmstead cheese operation in Gallipolis, southeast Ohio, on a 110 acre farm that has been in the family since Betty and Fuzzy Cook moved there in 1947.
Nick Nolan and his family moved back in 2001 to bring the dairy back to life, converting an existing pole barn into a state licensed cheese making facility. The farm is a grass based, sustainable producer of Jersey milk and farms using organic methods, though it is not certified.
The milk is crafted on the farm into small batches of farmstead cheese, with a specialism in naturally aged raw milk cheese alongside several pasteurised specialty cheeses, and fresh mozzarella hand stretched to order twice weekly. The cheese sells at the Athens farmers market on Saturday mornings and through retail shops across Gallia County, Athens and central Ohio, and Huntington, West Virginia, with wholesale for restaurants and chefs. Across the road the family milks, raises calves, feeds whey to pigs and keeps the farm running day to day.

Just bought the Gruyère from them at the Wild Ramp and it’s incredible. A dairy farm in Ohio making a great Alpine cheese like that is so impressive.
Best cheese in the world.
The cheeses they produce are all delicious. It's so nice to be able to purchase quality, handmade artisanal food from a local farm. Celeste and the kids (including Nick 🙂) are a very welcoming bunch!

The commitment from this family towards not just making amazing cheese, but also for being environmentally responsible, is second to none. 10 stars.
Delicious! I absolutely love their cheese and even get requests for their cheese curds when traveling to visit family!
This family farm makes excellent cheese that they distribute around the regions restaurants and stores, namely in Columbus, Athens and Huntington. Their farm is not set up for visitors, so you wouldn't see a sign on the road but if you ever see their name on a menu or their cheese on your local store shelf, you definitely need to try it. Their Cloverton is my personal favorite, along with the seasonal pepper jack.
