The best farms

  1. 1Nadig Family FarmNadig Family FarmRaw milk farm in Nisland4.2 (10 reviews)Nadig Family Farm is a family run farm at Nisland in the Black Hills country of South Dakota, started in 2007 with a simple aim: to raise cattle the right way on open pasture. The farm says its cattle eat only grass and forage, never grain or supplements, are raised without growth hormones or routine antibiotics, and are moved regularly under rotational grazing to keep the land healthy. Alongside the beef the family raises lamb and organically fed pork on the same ground. The farm also runs a raw A2/A2 milk herdshare from its grazing Guernsey cows, whose milk carries a golden colour from its high beta carotene and who are given only a small amount of certified organic grain at milking. Beef is sold as whole, half and quarter animals, custom cut to your own specification, with processing dates in the Black Hills region and in northern Illinois and drop off sites in the Black Hills. Google reviews shown on the farm's own site come from customers who say they have been buying meat straight from John for well over a decade.
  2. 2Serendipity FarmsteadSerendipity FarmsteadRaw milk farm in Hot Springs4.5 (4 reviews)Serendipity Farmstead is a homestead farm at Hot Springs, South Dakota, raising animals on pasture and growing produce without chemicals, building soil with manure and compost. Four Jersey cows kept on pasture year round give rich A2/A2 milk, bottled twice a week, and the farm also runs cattle, yaks, pigs and Cornish Cross chickens, plus a tropical greenhouse growing year round. Dairy is sold only at the farm store, where beef, yak, pork and chicken are also available by the cut, with some items open to online pre order for collection. Their meat is stocked at Farmer Girl Foods inside Two Cows Creamery & Bistro as well.
  3. 3Wildeboer DairyWildeboer DairyRaw milk farm in LennoxThe Wildeboer family has farmed the same land in Lennox, South Dakota for 100 years. The farm began with Claus and Effie Wildeboer, their son John ran a Holstein dairy until the 1990s, and today the fourth generation, Johnathan Wildeboer with his wife Stephanie and his sister Julie, has brought dairying back with a herd of Jersey cows and opened Wildeboer Dairy selling raw A2A2 Jersey milk. Everything happens on the farm: we milk the cows, we bottle up the milk and we sell it to you, as they put it. The cows eat a diet of seasonal grazing with non GMO grain supplements, and the family believes good nutrition starts with healthy soil, passing to healthy plants and healthy animals. Raw whole and low fat milk comes in half gallon jugs at 6 dollars, with cream by the quart, collected at the farm barn daily between 8am and 8pm.
  4. 4Pasque Hills RanchPasque Hills RanchRaw milk farm in EurekaPasque Hills Ranch is a family owned, grass based sheep ranch in central South Dakota raising registered Horned Dorsets, pedigree Ile de France, high percentage East Friesian dairy sheep and a commercial band of Dorset Finns. Ewes run on pasture with mineral and salt supplements and are raised on pasture and forage alone unless deemed necessary, with grain avoided even at February lambing. The fall group lambs unassisted on pasture, and the ranch selects hard for maternal ability and environmental tolerance. The flock tests negative for OPP, Johnes, CAE and CL, with random tests run yearly and results shared on request, and all incoming stock is quarantined and retested. The ranch sells production and registered breeding sheep, willing to ship, alongside meat and milk from the dairy lines. Its raw sheep and goat milk, sold by the quart and half gallon, appears through raw milk directories rather than on the ranch's own site.
