Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company is a fourth generation family dairy at Point Reyes Station, California, making raw milk cheeses including its flagship Original Blue.
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company is a fourth generation family farm on the Northern California coast, sitting above Tomales Bay just outside Point Reyes Station.
Tobia Giacomini emigrated from Italy, and his son Waldo established the family farm at Point Reyes in 1938. Bob Giacomini took the dairy on as the third generation and milked cows here for years before the family made any cheese at all. In August 2000 they turned out the first wheels of Original Blue, and the business is run today by the Giacomini sisters, Jill Giacomini Basch, Lynn Giacomini Stray and Diana Giacomini Hagan, which makes it a women founded and women owned farm.
The flagship Original Blue is made from raw, non pasteurised, rBST free cows' milk and aged three and a half months. The range has grown around it to Bay Blue, Fennel Blue, Toma and its flavoured versions, Brie, Truffle Brie, Quinta, Gouda and a small set of cheese spreads. The herd is Holstein and is grazed on rotation, the pastures are drilled no till to hold the soil, a methane digester supplies about half of the farm's energy and new solar is being added on top of it. The marketplace at the farm is open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm, and needs no booking; sit down tastings at The Fork have to be reserved in advance. Cheese is shipped across the country and stocked in shops. Farm tours are not offered.

This is a wonderful local spot with excellent cheese, chutney, jams, and other compliments to any kitchen. Ingrid was exceptionally welcoming and informative on the many cheeses offered by Farmstead.

We do not hold prices, availability, parking, access details or event dates for Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company. The farm answers those directly on its own site or by phone.
Had a really disappointing experience - beware that there is no where to sit and hang out unless you have a reservation. They won’t even allow you on the patio or to walk over and see the cows. Also would note that this is more akin to an adult’s wine tasting experience than it is to a kid friendly farm. There was nothing for my son to do let along anywhere for us to hang out.
Just stopped for some samples in the gift shop. For me it was enough cheese for one day. I could not imagine doing a full tasting. But the cheeses were great and the prices were also very fair, (better than whole foods)... The drive in is very scenic and worth simply driving through.
This location is run by 3 sisters, and is a coastal gem. They make world class cheese, from cows that are on the property. This location is well equiped to handle a family event. I was blessed to see a calf being born, and trying to take it's first steps at this location.
Delicious cheeses. I was shocked at the (lack of) view from the patio tables. The drive in and out is GORGEOUS. I can't believe they built that nice patio and covered the view with metal siding. It doesn't do justice to the surrounding area. I arrived súper late to the tasting (I blame the rental car clock being an hour off) so we missed the farm talk--which I know is value added. Still, the cheese plate we had for $50/pp was on the small side. I'd recommend you to visit but just have an ice cream cone. We took the rest of our cheese plate to the nearby Pt Reyes North Beach and enjoyed a much more beautiful view. What a shame. Extremely friendly and understanding staff. Still worth a visit if nearby, but not as the main destination due to no view.
Point Reyes Cheese is the very best of the very best. I am a Dutch Wisconsinite so to say I’m cheese obsessed is definitely an understatement. We came across point Reyes cheese and will never buy any other cheese in California!! Flavor profiles are amazing. My favorites are the Truffle Brie and the Fennel Blue. So unique and so yummy! We visited the farm and we were truly blown away buy the hospitality and utter peace here. The cows were happy and healthy and treated so well! The famers and staff are excelling at creating a very environmentally happy operation and we were so impressed with the cheese!
