Milk Pail Market is a small, veteran owned and operated dairy farm at Conrad in northern Montana, run on the motto know your farmer, know your food.
The family has opened a self serve farm stand on the farm itself, open seven days a week from dawn to dusk, stocked with raw milk, sourdough bread, tallow and cookies. Raw milk directories list the herd as A2/A2 and grass fed. What is not sold at the gate goes out on weekly town drops: Great Falls on a Tuesday afternoon, Shelby on a Wednesday, a subscription only Great Falls drop on a Thursday and Choteau on a Friday.
The herd is small enough that every cow has a name. Saoirse and Dolly were both due to calve in the spring, their calves half sisters and future milk cows, and Butter, who is Sugar's calf, has grown up the image of her mother. Watching over them is Magen, a young livestock guardian dog still learning friend from foe around the farm. Alongside the dairy the family raises pasture raised poultry in batches through spring and summer, sold as whole chicken, and the subscription list also carries cream, yogurt, butter, chicken and duck eggs, frozen chicken broth and a shelf of sourdough baking.
