A truly beautiful selection no matter your dietary needs or desires. And the people are nice.
We live in the neighborhood and love our Co-op! We shop there at least once a week and love the fresh produce, prepared salads and fresh bakery items.
Cool market, plenty of organic and local vendors.
Good service good items to buy, great people working there.
Friendly staff, great prices, all the things including an awesome deli. Better to support local businesses than corporate giants any and every day.
I'v shopped at The Co OP since it Opened on Girard in 1975. This New AVANYU Location is the farthest thing from the Original Wholistic Vegetarian Community Operated Food Store that ey'v ever witnessed anywherein the United States. We thought the NOB HILL Location had De-Generated significantly. The NEWest one practically makes WHOLE FOODS even seem like a Co Op in comparison ◇ Very Sad..sorry. 🪷 JDF.
Rebuilding the food system, from the farm up
This used to have the best soup and sandwich deli but that has been replaced with grab and go refrigerators, which is fine. There are now two self check outs which I find cheap and unnecessary when we pay organic prices so that we have a human person to interact with when we pay. Also the self check outs are card only as evidently cash is too farmer for the Coop. Ironic. Luckily they still have two human registers. The thing that really sucks is that the upper South parking lots, which were free for 25 years, have been bought by an evil entity who put up a tiny QR code payment system for parking per hour. I was told if you do not pay the hourly parking you receive a $75 ticket in the mail which goes up to $300 in late fees. Parking should be free within at least 100 feet of a grocery store. Anyway, I am sure the upper middle class boomers and Gen X academics (me) who have frequented this Coop for years will prize giving their bank card info over to a random QR code piece of crap parking lot so we can pay $10 inside for a glass jar of pomegranate juice. One can also pay with coins/card to the newly installed city parking. It seems as though everyone is in on the parking game these days. Perhaps you can walk up Amherst and park in front of someone's house. The North parking which has approximately 14 spaces is fought over by 10 businesses. Other then that it's a fine little organic grocery store, in a food desert, with no parking, which pays no dividends any more, that will probably close for "no reason."
As I was checking out at the self check out. I felt very uncomfortable as one of the employees was literally watching every move I made. Never experienced this anywhere else. First and last time I ever shop here. I thought I give a try because its locally owned. But I felt I was being racial profiled. So no thank you. Really liked the store too.
