The Roots Farm Market

Karin Bellemare and Jon Wagner own it together, and the two also own Bear Roots Farm in Williamstown, Vermont, which grows year round vegetables on 20 acres and is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers. Karin manages the market and Jon manages the farm, and the two businesses work closely together through the year. They opened the market in 2019 because they wanted a year round shop, open seven days a week, rather than carrying vegetables back and forth to the farmers market.

The farm supplies organic vegetables to the store all year, and alongside its own produce the market carries goods from other Vermont growers, farmers, makers, artists and bakers. The shelves follow the season: seeds, soil mixes, vegetable starts, compost, flowers, hanging baskets, fruit trees and berry bushes in spring, local produce through the summer, a large display of farm pumpkins, winter squash, mums and fall perennials at harvest, then Vermont grown Christmas trees and wreaths made at the farm in winter. An on site kitchen opened in 2021 and serves grab and go food all year, using as much of the farm grown produce as possible and seeking out organic sources for the rest, including the breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches it is known for locally.
