Taylor FarmFarm shop · Londonderry4.7 (188 reviews)Taylor Farm is a working farm in the Green Mountains at Londonderry, Vermont, first started in 1840 and owned and operated by Jon Wright and his family since 1989. From 1998 to 2018 the farm made award winning Gouda; production has ceased, and the farm store now carries one of the best selections of Vermont cheeses from other small dairy farms, alongside maple syrup, preserves, meats, baked goods, ice cream, honey and local crafts. The farm remains home to a mixed herd of Jersey, Brown Swiss and Ridgeback cows plus goats, chickens, ducks, draft horses, a donkey and a Scottish Highlander named Skippy, all friendly and easy for visitors to meet. Horse drawn sleigh rides run in winter and wagon rides all year, booked by phone, with a fire and warming hut stop along the trail. Raw milk directories list the farm as a raw cow milk source, though its own site does not mention milk sales.
  • 3Four Corners FarmFour Corners FarmFruit & veg · Newbury4.8 (162 reviews)Four Corners Farm is an extremely diversified family farm in the Connecticut Valley at Newbury, in northeast Vermont. Fifty acres of fruit and vegetables run from asparagus, leaf greens and strawberries through sweet corn, tomatoes, melons and winter squash to gourmet herbs, alongside a small herd of Jersey milk cows and Scottish Highland beef cattle. The farm's promise is simple and repeated across its site: all we sell is our own, we sell only what we grow. The farm stand is open every day, with hours that follow the season, and the produce list changes as the growing year turns: strawberries and asparagus early, corn, tomatoes and melons in high summer, squash and brassicas into autumn, with farm fresh milk alongside. The family describes taking great pride in producing the very highest quality fruits and vegetables possible while taking care of the land that is taking care of them.
  • 4Cedar Circle Farm & Education CenterCedar Circle Farm & Education CenterFruit & veg · Thetford4.8 (126 reviews)Cedar Circle Farm and Education Center is a nonprofit organic farm on conserved land along the Connecticut River in East Thetford, Vermont. Around 25 acres grow certified organic vegetables, berries, greens, herbs, native plants and cut flowers, certified by VOF, the USDA accredited program of NOFA VT, with an add on certification from the Real Organic Project. The farm works regeneratively: cover cropping, crop rotation, reduced tillage, and pest control with beneficial insects rather than synthetic sprays. The farm is a community hub as much as a growing operation. A farmstand and the Hello Cafe sit beside retail greenhouses, a commercial kitchen and a pick your own flower garden, with pick your own strawberries, blueberries and pumpkins through the season. A CSA runs alongside summer camps, farm tours, workshops and a teen farm fellowship, and the farm carries out agricultural research in the public interest. The farmstand is open daily from May to early November, with a reduced schedule to late December.
  • 5The Roots Farm MarketThe Roots Farm MarketFruit & veg · Middlesex4.7 (105 reviews)The Roots Farm Market sits on US Route 2 at Middlesex, Vermont, and it is farmer owned and operated. Karin Bellemare and Jon Wagner own it together, and the two also own Bear Roots Farm in Williamstown, Vermont, which grows year round vegetables on 20 acres and is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers. Karin manages the market and Jon manages the farm, and the two businesses work closely together through the year. They opened the market in 2019 because they wanted a year round shop, open seven days a week, rather than carrying vegetables back and forth to the farmers market. The farm supplies organic vegetables to the store all year, and alongside its own produce the market carries goods from other Vermont growers, farmers, makers, artists and bakers. The shelves follow the season: seeds, soil mixes, vegetable starts, compost, flowers, hanging baskets, fruit trees and berry bushes in spring, local produce through the summer, a large display of farm pumpkins, winter squash, mums and fall perennials at harvest, then Vermont grown Christmas trees and wreaths made at the farm in winter. An on site kitchen opened in 2021 and serves grab and go food all year, using as much of the farm grown produce as possible and seeking out organic sources for the rest, including the breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches it is known for locally.

Alongside the milk they make goat milk soap and goat milk lotions. The herd is the heart of it. The farm publishes a kidding schedule and pages for its does, junior does, bucks and British Guernseys, so you can see the animals behind the milk, and its sales policy is just as plain spoken: no bottle babies, no single kid sold to a home without other goats, and kids leave disbudded, vaccinated and treated preventively for coccidiosis. • 24Ghost Dog DairyGhost Dog DairyMeat, fruit & veg · Hardwick4.4 (7 reviews)Ghost Dog Dairy is a family owned farm in Hardwick, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, run by a military family who made the move into full time farming. The herd began as registered American Alpines and has been crossed with Saanens since 2017, and the goats browse and graze outdoors through the grazing season on the farm's own certified organic hay, pasture, herbs and garlic. Kids are dam raised by their own mothers. The farm runs its own micro dairy, where the milk is fermented, processed and bottled on site as Farm Dog Formula, a lightly fermented raw goats milk tonic for dogs and cats rather than a drinking milk. The same herbal pastures are rotated into garlic beds, where the farm grows a porcelain hardneck variety called Music that is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers, packed by the pound and posted out. The garlic earns its keep twice over, because it is also used against parasite cycles in the herd instead of chemical treatments, and the June scapes go into the sausages. Pigs root and graze rotationally through open fields and the hedges around the farm's native apple trees, fed fresh goats milk and apples, and they turn thick sod into new garlic beds and hayfields as they go. The farm store sells goat meat, garlic scape goat sausages, pasture raised pork shares and small batch goat milk soap made with the farm's own milk.
