Julie and Zach took over in 2023 and raise 100% grass fed American Milking Devon cattle and Icelandic sheep alongside organic vegetable plots that rotate through the pastures the animals have grazed, so the grazing builds the soil that grows the crops. Cabbage, carrots, onions, daikon, garlic and potatoes come off that ground and are fermented each autumn with nothing but salt and no vinegar, into the sauerkraut, kimchi and cultured raw vegetables that sit in the chiller cabinets of natural grocers across northern and central Vermont. The ferments reach people on those shop shelves rather than over a farm counter, and the farm does not sell individual cuts of meat. Beef, lamb and mutton are sold as a whole or part animal for on farm slaughter, arranged by email, and naturally tanned sheepskins from the farm's own Icelandic flock are bought the same way, with shipping available. The best way to see the place is to join one of the summer cabbage planting days or the autumn production days. The Devon herd is not being milked at the moment, though Julie and Zach say they hope to bring milking back.

The herd began as registered American Alpines and has been crossed with Saanens since 2017, and the goats browse and graze outdoors through the grazing season on the farm's own certified organic hay, pasture, herbs and garlic. Kids are dam raised by their own mothers. The farm runs its own micro dairy, where the milk is fermented, processed and bottled on site as Farm Dog Formula, a lightly fermented raw goats milk tonic for dogs and cats rather than a drinking milk. The same herbal pastures are rotated into garlic beds, where the farm grows a porcelain hardneck variety called Music that is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers, packed by the pound and posted out. The garlic earns its keep twice over, because it is also used against parasite cycles in the herd instead of chemical treatments, and the June scapes go into the sausages. Pigs root and graze rotationally through open fields and the hedges around the farm's native apple trees, fed fresh goats milk and apples, and they turn thick sod into new garlic beds and hayfields as they go. The farm store sells goat meat, garlic scape goat sausages, pasture raised pork shares and small batch goat milk soap made with the farm's own milk.

Danielle Allen and Ben Dana bought the farm in 2013, having both grown organic vegetables since 2001, and renamed it Root 5 Farm in 2015. The land has been certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers since 2006 and is conserved with the Vermont Land Trust. About 7 acres are in vegetables and half an acre in perennial asparagus, rhubarb and blueberries, with more than 100 varieties grown across the season. The farm builds its sandy loam soils through crop rotation, cover cropping and minimal tillage, uses row covers on certain crops instead of insect sprays, and never uses herbicides. Most of what the farm grows goes out in a weekly CSA box. Members choose their own vegetables, pick a Tuesday or a Friday, and collect from one of twelve locations around the Upper Valley from April through November. Boxes can be topped up with milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, fruit and dry beans from other local producers, and you do not have to be a member to order a one-off Farm Fresh Box. The farm also makes Power Kraut, a small batch organic sauerkraut in flavours including original, turmeric, beet, Bavarian and kimchi, sold year round in Upper Valley shops such as the Co-op Food Stores in Hanover and Lebanon, Chapman's Store in Fairlee and Jake's Quechee Market.
