GardenHome Farm at Mount Vernon in Washington's Skagit Valley raises Scottish Highland beef sold by the quarter and breeds show quality dairy goats.
GardenHome Farm is the Schleh family's small farm in the Skagit Valley at Mount Vernon, Washington, where a flower garden fronts a Victorian style house with the farm behind, on two acres plus fifteen leased acres of pasture. The family breeds show quality Saanen and Oberhasli dairy goats, raises Scottish Highland cattle for beef, and breeds English Shepherd dogs. The farm was once a certified Grade A raw goat milk dairy; the licence was given up years ago and the goats are now milked for house milk and simple chevre, with hopes of returning the facility to Grade A standard one day.
Highland beef is sold by the quarter and half at 5 dollars per pound hanging weight, from a small herd that fattens on the lush Skagit Valley summer pastures, a heritage breed the family notes has not been bred to fatten on corn. Butchering is handled on the farm by Del Fox Meats of Stanwood so the animals are never stressed, with a customer interest list kept by email.
