The best farms

  1. 1Abbey Home FarmAbbey Home FarmHoney farm in Cirencester4.5 (467 reviews)Abbey Home Farm is an organic farm on the edge of Cirencester, home to The Organic Farm Shop and its cafe. The family took the farm on in 1990 and now keep rare breed organic Shorthorn cows, laying hens, table birds and pigs, alongside a 15 acre organic market garden growing over 80 varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs through the year. Milk is pasteurised on the farm and sold non homogenised from a vending machine in the shop, with their own yoghurt, cream, occasional butter and cheeses including Wiggold Cheddar beside it. The farm even grows spring wheat for its Abbey Loaf, milled up the road at Shipton Mill, and the shop tops up with produce from other organic growers so the range holds up all year round.
  2. 2Boyd Farms Cotswolds BeefBoyd Farms Cotswolds BeefButcher in Cheltenham4.8 (9 reviews)Cotswold Beef comes from the Boyd family's farm at Whittington near Cheltenham, where Ian and Cathy Boyd farm with their daughter Steph Ackrill. Their herd of Hereford cattle is raised organically and 100% pasture fed, grazing with no grain, on a farm managed with wildlife in mind. The beef sells online in boxes, from a taster box or the popular sausage and burger box through to slow cook, offal, marrow bone and BBQ boxes, with delivery or collection. The family also offers places to stay on the farm if you fancy seeing where your beef comes from.
  3. 3The Sandy Hill MobThe Sandy Hill MobButcher in Cheltenham5 (6 reviews)The Sandy Hill Mob raise beef cattle at Sandy Hill Farm in Sherborne, Gloucestershire, grazing pasture that includes historic parkland and herbal leys. The herd is 100% grass fed and Pasture For Life certified, eating pasture and forage for life, and the farm also keeps hens for pastured eggs and sells its own honey and biltong. Beef is sold in boxes, from a small box of steaks, mince and stewing cuts up to extra large boxes with roasting joints, released in batches through the year. Local delivery costs a small fee, orders further afield travel by courier in insulated wool boxes, and collection from the farm can be arranged. They also sell organic pork from Eastleach Downs Organic Farm.
  4. 4Hayloft FarmHayloft FarmHoney farm in StroudHayloft Farm is a calf at foot micro dairy in Horsley near Stroud, run by Nell and Ed. They began their smallholding with help from a neighbour and a wish to know exactly where their food came from, and their aim is to supply themselves and the local community with free range, low mileage, high welfare produce. The farm sells raw A2A2 Jersey milk along with home reared pork straight from the farm, lamb, grass finished beef from their Shetland cattle, duck eggs and raw honey. Collection is daily in the early evening.
