About the farm
Downs Ranch near Montrose, Colorado raises 100% grass fed beef and heritage breed pork, sold as beef shares and bundles, shipped frozen or collected from the ranch.
Downs Ranch is a family ranch south of Montrose, Colorado, run by Jeff and Jenika Downs. Jeff's parents bought the land in 1990, and Jeff came home after studying animal science at Cal Poly to take it on. Their Red Angus and Red Devon cattle are moved through rotational grazing on alfalfa, clover and perennial grass pastures, irrigated with mountain snowmelt from Silver Jack Reservoir, and the ground has been farmed without chemicals since 2006.
The beef is 100% grass fed and grass finished, with no antibiotics, no hormones and no corn finishing. The ranch also raises heritage breed hogs outdoors on non-GMO feed. Beef is sold as eighth, quarter, half and whole shares and in bundles, and pork by the half or whole hog and in boxes. Orders ship frozen on Mondays, and local customers can collect from the ranch by arrangement.
