Top-notch atmosphere, great service and the food was truly delicious in a way that's hard to describe. I'll be telling my family and friends about this place.
The burgers were delicious. Did not have to wait too long for your food and the views from every table were perfect. It was not busy at all.
Used to be really good. Last two times I've been there, the meat has been horribly overcooked. Overall quality feels like it's slipping to mid-tier and not worth the price that is being charged.
The place is situated next to a creek, with a huge backyard next to it with plenty of space for the kids to play or for big groups. The food is good, but it is a little annoying have to stand in line every time you want to order something. You want another beer, you have to wait in line for 10 minutes or more.
We almost skipped James Ranch Grill because it's a little outside of town, but we're so glad we didn't. While shopping in Durango, we mentioned to a local that we were thinking about going there for dinner, even though it was a bit out of the way. She laughed and said it was so fresh we could probably meet the cow we were about to eat. That was all the convincing we needed. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed—a great sign. You order at the window (food at one, drinks at another), then grab a seat in the beautiful backyard overlooking the ranch and the surrounding mountains while you wait. The setting alone is worth the trip. We ordered the famous burger, a steak sandwich, and fries, and every bite lived up to the hype. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and you can absolutely taste the difference. Before leaving, we wandered over to see the gardens, the cattle, and the free-ranging chickens. It's a great reminder of where your food comes from and what makes this place so special. Don't skip the ranch store, especially if you have a cooler or refrigerator. We were staying in a hotel with a fridge, so we stocked up. We bought burger patties, breakfast sausage, and a gorgeous Wagyu strip steak. The burgers needed nothing more than a little salt and pepper, and I'm still thinking about how beautiful that Wagyu steak was. We also picked up their Fig Chèvre and Belford cheese, and both were outstanding. They were so fresh and flavorful that we wished we had bought even more. If you're passing through Durango, James Ranch Grill is absolutely worth the short drive. Incredible food, breathtaking views, and a true farm-to-table experience that we'll be talking about for a long time.
Rebuilding the food system, from the farm up

Caution on portion size! I was baffled at how small the portions are. We came around 5pm on a Saturday, the wait to order and sit was quick! Quality and taste is there and absolutely loved the farm shop. Sadly not everyone cleans up after their dog as I stepped in their droppings.
I went to James Ranch Grill in Durango, and overall it was a really nice experience. There was about an hour-plus wait, which was a little long, but honestly the place was busy for a reason. The environment was beautiful, with open views of the ranch, mountains, and peaceful outdoor seating. It had a relaxed, fresh Colorado vibe that made the wait feel a little more worth it. The burger was definitely the highlight. It tasted fresh, juicy, and full of flavor, not like a regular fast-food style burger. You could tell the ingredients were good quality, and everything came together really well. The view made the meal even better because it felt like you were eating right in the middle of a ranch. The service was also friendly and welcoming. Even though they were busy, the staff were polite and helpful. Overall, James Ranch Grill is a great spot for a burger, good views, and a laid-back atmosphere. I’d recommend going, but be ready to wait.
James Ranch Grill is the kind of place that makes you rethink what a “simple” burger can be. Everything starts with the sourcing. You can taste the difference right away. The beef is rich, clean, and actually has flavor on its own, which means they don’t need to hide behind heavy seasoning or gimmicks. The ingredients across the board feel intentional. Fresh, local, and handled with care. The setting is part of the experience. You’re not just grabbing food, you’re out on a working ranch with mountain views. It feels relaxed and a little slower in the best way. It’s the kind of place you go to sit, eat, and actually enjoy where you are. The menu stays focused, which works. Burgers, a few sides, and everything done well. The fries and shakes round things out without trying to steal the show. If there’s a tradeoff, it’s that you’re paying a bit more and it’s not built for speed. Lines can get long, especially in peak hours, and you’re committing to the experience more than a quick meal. Overall, James Ranch Grill is worth it. It’s not just about getting a burger, it’s about getting a better one in a place that feels connected to where your food actually comes from.
Food was delicious and staff were all super nice! Loved the farm store too! I love that they have tallow beauty products made with their tallow 😍 such a beautiful place to eat and relax. This place is really doing it ALL right!
