Shiloh Dairy is a family run herd share dairy in the foothills of Northern Colorado, sitting near Stove Prairie at the top of Rist Canyon and Buckhorn Canyon Road, just west of Bellvue.
Its Jersey cows spend their days on open pasture through spring, summer and fall, eating fresh non-GMO grasses grown without pesticides, and the farm says plainly that it does not believe in offering them grain. The cows are raised without growth hormones or vaccines. If one ever does need antibiotics she comes off the milking line straight away, and her milk is withheld and discarded through a withdrawal period of 30 to 60 days, well beyond the usual veterinary guideline of 5 to 10 days.
Raw milk cannot be sold in Colorado shops, so Shiloh runs as a herd share: you buy a share of the herd and pay a monthly care fee covering feed, pasture management, veterinary care, milking and herd health testing, then collect your milk each week. A half share is about half a gallon a week and a full share about a gallon. Members collect at the dairy itself or from drop sites around Fort Collins, Laporte and Weld County. Goat's milk has recently joined the herd share, and the farm now also offers locally raised beef in limited quantities, including steaks, roasts and ground beef. Members are welcome to come and meet the herd by arrangement, and the family breeds German Shorthaired Pointers alongside the dairy.
