The Good Shepherd Farmstead

The family does all of its own planting, tending and harvesting with pure organic methods and no sprays or chemicals, and keeps a herd of registered Alpine dairy goats that it milks daily. They mill their own organic flour for the bread and scones they bake, make goat milk soap from the herd's milk, and have completed Penn State Extension's Dairy Goat Production and Management certification. They are current members of the American Dairy Goat Association.

Raw goat milk is available only through herdshares, which is the way Michigan law allows it. A share costs 40 dollars a month for about half a gallon of milk a week, with a one time 20 dollar buy in and a refundable 10 dollar deposit on four quart jars, and the waitlist for the 2026 milking season is open. Share owners collect at the farmstead weekly, or at a limited number of drop off points in Mt Pleasant and Midland. Everything else is ordered online for collection, or bought at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market on Thursdays and the Midland Farmers Market on Saturdays, where the table carries freshly milled bread, scones, goat milk soap and their own organic vegetables. Registered Alpine goat kids are sold as well.
