The best farms

  1. 1Milk MaidsMilk MaidsRaw milk & eggs · Bolton4.8 (1314 reviews)Milk Maids is an award winning family dairy farm at Over Hulton in Bolton, where the family has cared for the land and the cows for over 70 years. Milk from their own herd is bottled daily and sold either pasteurised or raw, and it also goes into their handcrafted gelato ice cream, with 24 flavours that change every month. The farm shop sells the milk and ice cream alongside free range eggs from Staveley's Eggs, and you can order online for click and collect. The shop is open six days a week, closed on Tuesday, and opens a little earlier for anyone just after milk and eggs.
  2. 2McLintock's DairyMcLintock's DairyRaw milk & eggs · Oldham4.6 (84 reviews)McLintock's Dairy is a family run dairy at Ralph's Farm in Denshaw, with a history going back to the 1930s and a pedigree herd of Holstein Friesian cows. The farm bottles whole, semi skimmed, skimmed and raw milk, much of it in glass, and supplies homes as well as local schools, cafes and restaurants around Saddleworth. Deliveries arrive on the doorstep before 8am, Monday to Saturday depending on your area, and the round covers most of Oldham. Alongside milk you can order cream, yoghurt, eggs, butter, bacon, juice and fresh milkshakes, and new customers register through the WhatsApp form on the website.
  3. 3The farming family standing with their cows behind a Make Milk Great Again banner in the yardOak FarmRaw milk · Stalybridge4.9 (36 reviews)Oak Farm is a family run dairy at Matley near Stalybridge, run by farmer Steven Sherratt and his family, and the last remaining dairy farm in its area. The farm sells raw, unpasteurised milk directly to the public, collected fresh at the farm. Bring your own bottles or buy a reusable container on site. There are no fixed opening hours, so get in touch first and the family will happily arrange a collection time that suits. The family are also looking at making their own cheese, butter and ice cream in future.
  4. 4Manchester Honey CompanyManchester Honey CompanyRaw honey · Sale5 (27 reviews)The Manchester Honey Company is a small beekeeping business run by Gareth from Sale Moor. The bees are kept along natural lines, without chemical treatments, and their hard earned honey stores are never swapped out for sugar syrup, so what goes in the jar is raw, pure honey exactly as the bees made it. Everything sells through the online shop, where jars of raw honey sit alongside beekeepers soap, beeswax lip balm and beeswax candles, with bundle offers and gift cards too. The company also runs experience days for anyone curious about life inside the hive, and delivers rather than selling at the farm gate.
  5. 5Forster's Farm ShopForster's Farm ShopMeat · Wigan4.8 (22 reviews)Forster's Farm Shop is run by a fifth generation family of organic farmers who have lived and farmed on the estate surrounding Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan for 60 years. Their animals graze the pastures around the park, and you will often spot them in the fields as you drive in. The family rear organic, grass fed beef and lamb for the shop. Alongside their own meat they make sausages, burgers and dry cured bacon, and stock free range chicken and pork, organic vegetables, dairy products, cheeses, artisan jams, relishes and chutneys. The shop sits in the Kitchen Courtyard at the park and opens Tuesday to Sunday.
  6. 6A black lamb lying on the back of its brown mother in a straw penPlane Trees FarmRaw milk & meat · Bolton5 (7 reviews)Plane Trees Farm is a family run smallholding at Ainsworth near Bolton, begun with the simple goal of being as self sufficient as possible and sharing any surplus with the local community. The flock takes in Shetland, Wensleydale and Zwartbles sheep, kept alongside a herd of British Toggenburg dairy goats. From the goats' rich, creamy milk the farm makes handmade soaps and cheeses. An online shop is launching soon, and in the meantime the produce is sold through local stockists, with news and updates on the farm's social media pages.

  • Oak Farm

We came up today for pistachio milkshake and pistachio ice cream. Friendly staff and my kids enjoyed watching the calves eat their dinner in the barn opposite. Really nice ice cream and milkshakes. Would definitely recommend.

  • Manchester Honey Company

The honey tastes amazing! Rich in flavour and much better than “honey” you get at a supermarket! Hope the owner manages to find some good raw milk he can enjoy.
