    The best farms

    1. 1Midway FarmsMidway FarmsFruit, veg & eggs · Albany4.7 (109 reviews)Midway Farms is a small organic farm on Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis in Oregon's Willamette Valley, and calls itself Oregon's only 100% dedicated gluten free farm operation: no wheat, barley or rye is fed to the animals, used in the baked goods or found anywhere else on the farm. Nothing toxic is sprayed, fertility comes from compost, fish and livestock waste, and ancient crop rotation keeps the soil healthy while native pollinators cohabit the hand picked beds. The farm runs a CSA whose members get first access to the freshest produce plus extra buying power in the store, which carries the farm's canned, dried and preserved goods, herbal teas, jams, pickles, handmade soaps and local crafts, with fresh produce, baked goods and eggs sold in person. A garden venue with a grape arch, gazebo and flower beds hosts weddings and a lively events calendar. Open Thursday to Monday, 10am to 6pm.
    2. 2Willow-Witt RanchWillow-Witt RanchRaw milk, fruit, veg & eggs · Ashland4.9 (49 reviews)Willow-Witt Ranch is a 445 acre working organic farm high in the Southern Oregon Cascades, ten miles from Ashland and close to 5,000 feet up. Suzanne Willow and Lanita Witt drove up snowy Shale City Road on the last morning of 1984, looked down into a hidden valley with a big barn and a little house, and put in an offer two weeks later. They built a dairy goat operation that keeps continuity with more than 150 years of grazing on this ground while undoing what earlier use took out: cattle were fenced off the land in 2008, roughly 80 acres of eroded wetland have been regenerated until Western Pond Turtles came back, and more than 7,000 ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, incense cedar and sugar pine seedlings were planted into an overstocked white fir forest. Jackson County named them Tree Farmers of the Year in 2007 and the ranch was called a Watershed Friendly Steward in 2009. Dr Witt died in December 2022 and Suzanne carries the work on. The on site, self serve Farm Store and the farm itself are open to the public every day from 11am to 5pm. The store sells organic raw goat milk from the ranch's own hand raised Alpine herd, in two sizes, fresh eggs including the popular rainbow eggs from their chickens plus large duck and goose eggs, and whatever organic vegetables the chalkboard says is ready, often arugula and leaf lettuces. The farm is certified organic by Oregon Tilth. You can book a farm tour to watch the dairy goats being milked and collect chicken eggs, walk about eight miles of trails, or stay on in the Meadow House, the Farmhouse Studio or the forested campground. Maremma livestock guardian dogs work here, so no visiting dogs or pets are allowed, and it is worth calling for road conditions in winter.
    3. 3Bella Lynn Blueberries, Dairy & Farm StoreBella Lynn Blueberries, Dairy & Farm StoreRaw milk, fruit, veg & eggs · Grants Pass4.9 (21 reviews)Bella Lynn is a family farm in Grants Pass, Oregon growing five varieties of u pick blueberries without herbicides, pesticides or chemicals, alongside a small dairy and a self serve farm store. The store is open daily from 9am to 6pm and carries the farm's raw A2A2 Jersey cow milk at 8 dollars a half gallon, raw goat milk at 5 dollars a quart, farm fresh eggs, baked goods and locally sourced artisanal products such as jams, syrups, organic herbal items and handmade crochet. The dairy runs as a herdshare for weekly milk: members sign up online, choose an amount, and collect fresh raw milk each week from the farm store. The farm describes holistic practices that put the health of its animals, land and customers first, with small batch milk, clean milking practices and regular testing. Payment at the self serve store is by cash, card or payment apps.
    4. 4Cedar MoonCedar MoonRaw milk, fruit & veg · Portland4 (12 reviews)Cedar Moon is a residential worker collective farming 7 acres beside Tryon Creek State Park in southwest Portland, Oregon, in cooperation with the nonprofit Tryon Life Community Farm. Its small herd of Nubian and Alpine dairy goats is milked by hand twice a day, and the raw goat milk goes into weekly glass jar subscriptions collected at the farm, with jars exchanged each week. A 108 tree orchard grows dozens of varieties of apples, pears, plums and medlars, sold through a community supported orchard with fall fruit shares and small batch naturally fermented hard cider. The orchard uses no pesticides and only site grown non chemical compost. The collective also sells mason bees, valuable native pollinators, and runs internships in community living. Milk subscriptions pause around breeding season, with a waitlist for new members while the goats kid.
    5. 5EichenalmEichenalmRaw milk, meat, fruit & veg · Philomath5 (3 reviews)Eichenalm is a small family farm on the Marys River in Oregon's Willamette Valley, just outside Philomath. Academics by trade, the family began farming as a path toward a more ethical and sustainable relationship with the food they eat. They keep a pure bred herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats, every doe registered, and take part in the American Dairy Goat Association's Dairy Herd Improvement Registry and Linear Appraisal. The does have free choice access to alfalfa hay, varied forage, kelp, loose minerals and fresh water, with a daily boost of dried herbs, flowers and seeds, and protein rich grain feed only while they are in milk. A weekly herbal dewormer keeps worm loads healthy through winter, and chemical dewormers or antibiotics are reached for only when absolutely necessary. Everything the dairy sells is raw and unpasteurised: goat milk by the quart, half gallon or gallon, a monthly milk subscription, kefir, soft spreadable chevre and dry salted feta. Alongside the dairy the farm stand carries free range eggs, sourdough loaves baked on Sunday mornings, sourdough starter, and seasonal apples and pears. Whole goats can be pre ordered for a November pick up. Milk and kefir are poured by appointment, cheese and eggs wait in the farm stand fridge and freezer, and pick up is in Philomath only. The family takes cash and Venmo and offers discounts to WIC and SNAP recipients, and to anyone else struggling to make ends meet. The name Eichenalm brings together the old growth oak forest of their first farm and the alpine meadows Sebastian grew up beside.
