    The best farms

    1. 1Three growers standing together among staked tomato plants inside a polytunnelGathering Together FarmMeat · Philomath4.6 (327 reviews)Gathering Together Farm has grown organic produce at Philomath, Oregon since 1987, when John, Sally and a few friends set out to give one local restaurant a wider choice of organic vegetables. Today the farm supplies the Willamette Valley through farmers markets, grocery stores, restaurants and a CSA, and works with students and researchers on everything from school tours to dry farming trials. At the farm, the farmstand sells GTF produce, fresh baked pastries and other local goods from Wednesday to Saturday, with a farm to table restaurant alongside. They also run market stalls at Portland State University, Beaverton, Corvallis and Newport on Saturdays and Hillsdale on Sundays.
    2. 2Midway FarmsMidway FarmsFruit, veg & eggs · Albany4.8 (109 reviews)Midway Farms is a small organic farm on Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis in Oregon's Willamette Valley, and calls itself Oregon's only 100% dedicated gluten free farm operation: no wheat, barley or rye is fed to the animals, used in the baked goods or found anywhere else on the farm. Nothing toxic is sprayed, fertility comes from compost, fish and livestock waste, and ancient crop rotation keeps the soil healthy while native pollinators cohabit the hand picked beds. The farm runs a CSA whose members get first access to the freshest produce plus extra buying power in the store, which carries the farm's canned, dried and preserved goods, herbal teas, jams, pickles, handmade soaps and local crafts, with fresh produce, baked goods and eggs sold in person. A garden venue with a grape arch, gazebo and flower beds hosts weddings and a lively events calendar. Open Thursday to Monday, 10am to 6pm.
    3. 3A girl bottle feeding a calf through the rails of the corralHope Springs DairyRaw milk · Bend5 (66 reviews)Hope Springs Dairy is a small family farm in Bend, Oregon producing raw milk from healthy, pasture raised cows, with no hormones, no grain and no shortcuts. The family believes everyone should have access to real, unprocessed milk, and runs the farm accordingly. Milk is available through a herdshare, with weekly pickup at the farm or from local drop sites in Bend and the surrounding area. Farm tours can be booked too, with the chance to feed and even bottle feed the cows and calves, and a newsletter carries farm news and recipes.
    4. 4Willow-Witt RanchWillow-Witt RanchRaw milk, fruit, veg & eggs · Ashland4.9 (49 reviews)Willow-Witt Ranch is a 445 acre working organic farm high in the Southern Oregon Cascades, ten miles from Ashland and close to 5,000 feet up. Suzanne Willow and Lanita Witt drove up snowy Shale City Road on the last morning of 1984, looked down into a hidden valley with a big barn and a little house, and put in an offer two weeks later. They built a dairy goat operation that keeps continuity with more than 150 years of grazing on this ground while undoing what earlier use took out: cattle were fenced off the land in 2008, roughly 80 acres of eroded wetland have been regenerated until Western Pond Turtles came back, and more than 7,000 ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, incense cedar and sugar pine seedlings were planted into an overstocked white fir forest. Jackson County named them Tree Farmers of the Year in 2007 and the ranch was called a Watershed Friendly Steward in 2009. Dr Witt died in December 2022 and Suzanne carries the work on. The on site, self serve Farm Store and the farm itself are open to the public every day from 11am to 5pm. The store sells organic raw goat milk from the ranch's own hand raised Alpine herd, in two sizes, fresh eggs including the popular rainbow eggs from their chickens plus large duck and goose eggs, and whatever organic vegetables the chalkboard says is ready, often arugula and leaf lettuces. The farm is certified organic by Oregon Tilth. You can book a farm tour to watch the dairy goats being milked and collect chicken eggs, walk about eight miles of trails, or stay on in the Meadow House, the Farmhouse Studio or the forested campground. Maremma livestock guardian dogs work here, so no visiting dogs or pets are allowed, and it is worth calling for road conditions in winter.
    5. 5A Jersey cow standing over her newborn calf on fresh strawJones Homestead and OperationsRaw milk & meat · Sandy5 (20 reviews)Jones Homestead and Operations is a family homestead at Sandy in Oregon built around Jersey cows, whose rich, cream heavy milk is the centre of everything the farm does. Raw Jersey milk comes fresh from the pasture, and goats and chickens share the farm with the herd. The farm store sells local Mount Hood honey, beeswax candles and chapstick, and pygmy goats are offered for sale from time to time. You can book a farm experience too, from learning to milk a cow by hand to the Little Farm Tour for meeting the animals, and the family offer tutoring as part of their mission to share what they know.
    6. 6Old Souls FarmOld Souls FarmMeat & eggs · Baker City4.9 (21 reviews)Old Souls Farm raises Scottish Highland cattle near Baker City, Oregon, selling beef under the Old Souls Farm and Market name. The animals spend two and a half years on grass pasture and are never given antibiotics or hormones, nor grazed on ground treated with pesticides. The farm is not certified organic but follows those principles. Beef is sold by the cut through the online shop, from steaks and roasts to ground beef and bulk orders of a whole, half or quarter animal. Collection is local in Baker County, with shipping available for a fee, and the farm also sells breeding Highlands.

    10. 10Terra FarmaTerra FarmaMeat & eggs · Corbett4.9 (10 reviews)Terra Farma is a pasture based farm at Corbett, Oregon, run by Linda and Mike, who have farmed the property since 2003. They bought the land in 2001 with no intention of farming it, a friend gave them seven chickens, and that flock grew into a mixed livestock farm of goats, turkeys, pigs, sheep and finally cattle. The name is a play on terra firma, and the farm works to rebuild soil fertility through multi species rotational grazing, on farm composting, minimal tillage and protection of sensitive riparian ground. Linda took a degree in environmental science and left her job at an environmental testing laboratory in 2011 to farm full time. Mike trained as a geologist, joined her full time in 2020, and has served on the board of the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District since 2012. Today the farm sells pasture raised meat and eggs, mainly through a monthly meat CSA. Each share weighs 10 to 12 pounds and carries meat from at least three species, and over a year members see beef, pork, chicken, lamb, goat, rabbit, duck and guinea fowl. Shares are collected at one of three points: the farm itself on Sunday afternoons, Woodstock in south east Portland on Tuesday evenings, and Kenton in north Portland on Thursday evenings. Whole chickens are a separate seasonal offer, raised in moveable houses that are shifted every single day and sold fresh once a month from May through October. Terra Farma once sold raw milk from its own cows, and the farm states on its site that those sales ended permanently after it could no longer find insurance cover for a small raw dairy.
    11. 11RKS FarmsRKS FarmsRaw milk & eggs · Silverton4.8 (8 reviews)RKS Farms sits on Abiqua Creek just outside Silverton, Oregon, where Rick and Kristi settled in 2011 after raising five children in Southern California. The dairy goats are Alpine and La Mancha, and their raw milk is bottled in quart glass bottles for herdshare owners. Raw goat milk and goat dairy products reach the community legally through a herdshare program with about one hundred owner families, alongside chevre and other goat cheeses. The farm also raises Black Angus beef cattle, Berkshire pigs, and free range Barred Rock chickens and Khaki Campbell ducks with a healthy pond to roam. There is a farmstore at the farm, summer goat hikes at Silver Falls, an AirBnB studio, and the family serves the Willamette Valley from Portland to Corvallis.
    12. 12EichenalmEichenalmRaw milk, meat, fruit & veg · Philomath5 (3 reviews)Eichenalm is a small family farm on the Marys River in Oregon's Willamette Valley, just outside Philomath. Academics by trade, the family began farming as a path toward a more ethical and sustainable relationship with the food they eat. They keep a pure bred herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats, every doe registered, and take part in the American Dairy Goat Association's Dairy Herd Improvement Registry and Linear Appraisal. The does have free choice access to alfalfa hay, varied forage, kelp, loose minerals and fresh water, with a daily boost of dried herbs, flowers and seeds, and protein rich grain feed only while they are in milk. A weekly herbal dewormer keeps worm loads healthy through winter, and chemical dewormers or antibiotics are reached for only when absolutely necessary. Everything the dairy sells is raw and unpasteurised: goat milk by the quart, half gallon or gallon, a monthly milk subscription, kefir, soft spreadable chevre and dry salted feta. Alongside the dairy the farm stand carries free range eggs, sourdough loaves baked on Sunday mornings, sourdough starter, and seasonal apples and pears. Whole goats can be pre ordered for a November pick up. Milk and kefir are poured by appointment, cheese and eggs wait in the farm stand fridge and freezer, and pick up is in Philomath only. The family takes cash and Venmo and offers discounts to WIC and SNAP recipients, and to anyone else struggling to make ends meet. The name Eichenalm brings together the old growth oak forest of their first farm and the alpine meadows Sebastian grew up beside.
    13. 13Westerlook FarmWesterlook FarmRaw milk & meat · CarltonWesterlook Farm is a 1911 farm on the edge of Carlton, Oregon, run by Matt and Darci Haney. They bought the property from a family who had called it home for 25 years, and it came with its name, given for the westward views over rolling hills toward the coastal mountain range. Bringing animals back to the place was the first priority: they tile drained the soggy fields, put in sturdy fencing and repaired the barns, and their design and build studio, MD Haney and Co., sits in the heart of the farm in the original carriage house. Their days are bookended by morning and evening chores. The farm sells raw milk, grass fed and finished beef, and breeding stock. Oregon does not allow raw milk to be sold as a retail product, so customers buy a share of ownership in the cow through a shared animal ownership agreement and collect their own milk at the farm, self serve, three days a week, bottled in half gallon glass jars. Westerlook is a Raw Milk Institute listed farm and sends a sample to an independent lab at least once a month to check bacteria counts. The cows graze rotationally through the dry months from March to October and are kept under cover on grass and alfalfa hay through the wet Oregon winter. Alongside the milk and beef there is a farm store and baked treats, and the family opens the farm up for creative workshops and nightly stays in the guest house.
