Sow Bountifully Homestead is a small family farm in LeRoy, northern Michigan, run by Joseph and Emma Shank, who moved to the land in spring 2022 after starting with a garden, a few chickens and some quail on a corner lot.
Their aim, in their own words, is real food that actually nourishes your family: non GMO pastured pork, chicken and eggs, and raw dairy herd shares from grass fed Jersey cows.
Everything is rotationally grazed. The dairy cows live out on pasture and receive only a small soy free, non GMO ration during milking. Meat chickens move daily to fresh grass after the brooder, laying hens free range inside netting that shifts to new ground, and the pigs live outside on pasture, rooting through soil and supplemented with non GMO feed, garden scraps and milk from the dairy cows. The couple describe nurturing the soil first so the land in turn nourishes the community.
