I would give it 5 stars but I always find white hair (likely chicken feather / feather remnants) in the chicken, which is gross. Not once, not twice, unfortunately not even three times. Need better processing because fine, hair-like feathers ALWAYS remain. Love the guy at the Ballard farmers market though.
Windy is amazing to work with. From the ordering piece to meeting up in Bellevue the entire process is smooth and easy. Not to mention the meat is incredible!! It’s our new favorite!
I can say enough about Windy N Ranch. Their beef is the best I have had. I have given up on grocery store beef. They have great quality, packaging (in house), great cut options and super easy to work with. I only want to eat beef from them going forward.
We had a single lamb that we needed processed. Not only did Greg and his team take care of the slaughter and processing, the meat was professionally vaccu packed and labeled. Its great to know that they care about the little guys as much as the larger ranches..
My family and I are so impressed with this butcher. When I shared that I had been burned by another local butcher in the past and was shopping for a new butcher, Greg (the owner) invited me to come out and see his operation. It was a wonderful experience. I was treated with respect and my questions were answered without condescension. His employees were so professional and kind. Not only did I get to see where the meat is processed but I also got to see the hanging room, the freezer, and where they cure bacon, etc. Everything was immaculate and everyone working there seemed proud to keep it that way. Greg even gave me advice about selling our older cows, and buying calves and piglets. Greg arranged for Luke’s Custom Slaughter for us and communicated with us at every step of the process. (Luke is the best guy in the business in this county! This was our third time using his services.) We have had our homegrown beef ruined by another local butcher in the past. It was so upsetting. We put countless hours (and $) into raising animals. And the cost of processing is not cheap, either. The butcher at Windy N listened to our experience and was able to identify the previous butcher’s error and give us a scientific explanation as to why our meat turned out the way it did. When we picked up our meat I was shocked. It was packed in shrink sealed bags and was well labeled. It was all boxed up and they even loaded it for me! We got it home and, after loading it in the freezer, we cooked some of the ground beef. I’m not sure if I have ever tasted anything so delicious. Even the very picky 8 year old asked for a second helping. Tonight we will have steak! Oh, and our prime rib roasts were cut and tied. Absolutely amazing! I cannot recommend this butcher enough.* *I am leaving this review because I am so happy with the service. I was not compensated in anyway for this review.
Rebuilding the food system, from the farm up

I can not say enough about how wonderful Windy N Ranch is. I have been a customer of Windy N Ranch since 2020. I found them because they were listed as an ethical ranch on some web site I was scrolling during the pandemic. I went to visit the farm and loved that all the critters were out in pasture, yard or pen doing what comes naturally. Greg and his family have built a sustainable ranch and butchery that takes the best care of the animals. It is proven by the quality of the meat. I have ordered all varieties (chicken, beef, pork, lamb, and turkey). On a whim, I did a taste test on his hamburger against two other farms located on the Olympic Peninsula around Port Townsend. The color of the meat told a big story, but the flavor of Gregg's Hamburger was head and shoulders superior. Maybe it is that the slaughter is done on site so the animals are stressed as little as possible. Maybe it is the quality of the grass, or the age/variety of the cows but whatever magic this family pours into their ranch is powerful. A few months ago, I purchased a whole hog. They slaughtered and butchered onsite. The person who did the butchering called me to make sure that the cuts were exactly what I wanted. This pork is so outstanding. they left a nice amount of fat on all the cuts. My husband, who does not normally eat the fatty part, now insists I cook it and serve it as the flavor and texture are beyond what most people have come to expect. the ham hocks were big enough for at least two meals. terrific in beans! they wrap on all their meat is heavy mil plastic so it lives in the freezer without burn or damage.
