    The best farms

    1. 1All Grass FarmsAll Grass FarmsRaw milk, meat & eggs4.6 (501 reviews)All Grass Farms raises grass fed beef, raw milk, pasture raised poultry, eggs and pork for families across the Midwest from its farm on Route 31 at Dundee in Illinois. The Guernsey dairy herd grazes a rotation of fresh paddocks, and the laying hens follow the cattle through the fields, feeding on insects and working the ground behind them. The farm store is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and weekends from 9am to 5pm, selling raw milk, eggs from hens on organic feed with no soy or corn, poultry, variety packs, and grass fed beef and pastured pork in bulk. There are egg bundles for curbside pickup, plus camps, tours and events on the farm.
    2. 2A farming couple standing arm in arm in front of golden autumn treesPrairie Creek PasturesRaw milk, meat & eggs · Tremont4.9 (91 reviews)Prairie Creek Pastures is a family farm at Tremont, Illinois raising food the regenerative way, because clean food matters to them. The dairy and beef herds are 100% grass fed, the hens are regeneratively pastured on soy free feed, and the pigs and chickens live out on pasture as well. Everything sells through the farm's online store for collection at the farm on your scheduled pickup day. Alongside raw A2A2 milk, beef, pork and chicken there are organs and bones, raw honey, pure Vermont maple syrup, stone milled organic grains and natural soaps and balms.
    3. 3Hoffman's Little AcresHoffman's Little AcresRaw milk & eggs · Fairbury4.8 (39 reviews)Hoffman's Little Acres is a small family farm in Fairbury, Central Illinois, owned and run by Scott and Anna Hoffman and their four children. Raw milk comes from their small herd of Jersey cows under Illinois raw milk permit 15004, tested monthly, and it is never shipped in from another farm. Seasonal raw goat milk is offered for those with cow milk allergies, and no artificial growth hormones or routine antibiotics are ever used on the farm. The cows are very close to fully grass fed and pastured, eating alfalfa hay, organic hay pellets and pasture, with a little non GMO corn at milking time to keep a couple of older cows in condition through winter. A self serve farm store at the end of the cedar lined drive sells the milk alongside milk fed pork raised outdoors on the farm's spare milk, completely free range chicken and duck eggs, raw honey from their own hives, and handcrafted goat milk soap.
    4. 4Windsweep FarmWindsweep FarmRaw milk, meat & eggs · Dixon4.8 (29 reviews)Windsweep Farm sits in the gently rolling plains of northwestern Illinois near Dixon, owned and operated by the Sheaffer family for 70 years, with the fourth generation now carrying on the animal husbandry. They milk Brown Swiss and Guernsey cows, all born on the farm, and sell raw milk and cream picked up at the farm with 24 hours notice or through their Quad City milk co op. Contact Renee by Facebook, text, phone or email to arrange a pickup. Animals are raised naturally and humanely with no hormones, and antibiotics only when needed for recovery from injury or illness. All livestock are pasture raised and non confined, on homegrown feed grown across the farm's hay, soybean, corn and pasture ground. Beef cattle graze grass and grass hay their whole lives, and the farm raises both 100% grass finished beef and grain finished beef, alongside Berkshire pork, free range lamb and cage free eggs.
    5. 5Three young goats crowding the camera in a straw bedded penHop & Hen FarmEggs · Lake Villa5 (21 reviews)Hop & Hen Farm is a small farm in the village of Lake Villa in northern Illinois, where the family keeps chickens and dairy goats, grows hops, herbs, native plants and loofah, and is a registered Bee Friendly Gardener with the Pollinator Partnership. It began around 2015 with hens for fresh eggs, then grew with rescued goats, including Annie, who came from a commercial dairy in West Virginia and gave her name to the farm's products. Raw wool and other raw materials are sourced from other small farmers they know. The farm's headline products are Annie Goat soaps, lotions and face cream, handcrafted in small batches from the goats' raw milk and sold online and from the farm shop, open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm. Fresh eggs from the pasture loving hens are sold at the shop alongside farm grown loofah, sourdough starter and handmade dry goods. Raw goat milk is sold frozen for dogs and cats only; the farm states plainly that it holds no licence for human use milk.
    6. 6Joy of Illinois FarmJoy of Illinois FarmRaw milk & eggs · Champaign4.9 (15 reviews)Joy of Illinois Farm sits four miles west of Champaign, Illinois, where Penny and Les Gioja have raised food for 30 years, first for their nine children and now for the community. The farm holds one of roughly 16 raw dairy permits in Illinois, and its pastured Saanen goats give unprocessed raw milk, lab tested every six weeks and sold in returnable glass Mason quart jars at the farm. Most milk and egg sales run through CSA style shares paid in late winter for the season, which runs March 21 to November 21. Free range eggs, live Katahdin lambs, Saanen dairy goats, small black American Guinea Hogs, meat chickens, African geese and Muscovy ducks round out the offer, sold from a small on farm store. Visitors can book a Saturday afternoon farm tour or come and do morning chores with the farmers.
    7. 7Dearing Country FarmsDearing Country FarmsRaw milk, fruit, veg & eggs · Bloomington4.7 (15 reviews)Dearing Country Farms is a 30 acre family farm a couple of miles west of Bloomington, Illinois, started in 2006 by Brad and Jackie Dearing, who hand planted over 5,000 native trees and shrubs on once eroding cropland as a windbreak, prairie restoration and reforestation project. They began with 300 laying hens raised cage free and on pasture with organic and non GMO feed, then grew into chemical free produce, meat chickens and turkeys, beef cattle, goats and sheep, with fruit trees and berries planted across the farm. The farm sells at the Downtown Bloomington farmers market on Saturdays from May through October, at winter markets, and from an on farm stand on Wednesday afternoons in season. Raw goat milk from the farm's Nubian and LaMancha does is also available by arrangement, call ahead to schedule a pickup and bring your own container, as Illinois law requires. Alongside their own meat, eggs, produce and herbs, the online shop also lists Florida seafood. Their Pioneer and Sustainability AgriLearning Center runs classes from regenerative agriculture to homesteading, and events such as Breakfast with the Goats bring visitors onto the farm.

    10. 10Cows grazing a green hillside below the old weatherboard barn with its red roofFlat Branch FarmRaw milk, meat & eggs · Taylorville5 (4 reviews)Flat Branch Farm is a small family farm in rural Taylorville, in Central Illinois, raising food the family are happy to eat themselves. They produce Grade A raw milk from a small dairy herd, grass fed beef, timber raised pork, pastured chicken and free range eggs, along with old fashioned soap, and they are steadily bringing regenerative practices onto the land. Ethical treatment of the livestock matters here, with the animals living out their days grazing in the sunshine. The farm is not open to the public. Milk comes through a raw milk herd share, and meat, eggs and soap are ordered through the online market, with farm pick up for customers who have placed orders. There is no shipping or home delivery at present.
    11. 11The farming family sitting together in the long autumn grass at sunsetHaystack GardensRaw milk, meat & eggs · GlasfordHaystack Gardens is a family farm in Glasford, Illinois, run by Jeremy and Anna Estabrook and their children. They farm to regenerate the land, building soil health and moving animals across fresh pasture so that plants and livestock work together rather than against each other. The farm sells raw A2/A2 milk through a subscription, and has been a certified raw dairy through the IDPH since fall 2023. There is grass fed beef, lamb and goat meat in limited retail cuts, along with pastured eggs. Everything is collected at the farm in Glasford, and it is worth getting in touch first to join the milk list or check what is available.
    12. 12Nettle Creek Farm and PantryNettle Creek Farm and PantryRaw milk, meat & eggs · SenecaNettle Creek Farm and Pantry is Larry and Kyle Fisk's family farm in Seneca, Illinois, serving farm customers since 2011. Kyle has been researching food and nutrition since 1994, when Weston A Price's Nutrition and Physical Degeneration settled her question about milk from healthy cows, and the farm is built around that idea of nutrient dense, minimally processed food. Customers order through the online store and collect at the farm by appointment. The farm sells grass fed beef, pastured poultry, pork and eggs, with milk from the farm's own cow available at the farm. The pantry side adds sourdough breads, 100 percent pure Greek olive oil from Manetas of Achaia, Wisconsin maple syrup and local raw honey, so some shelves carry trusted producers' goods alongside the farm's own. They invite customers to come out and see for themselves where and how the food is produced.
    13. 13First Light FarmsFirst Light FarmsRaw milk, meat & eggs · WaucondaFirst Light Farms is a small family farm at Wauconda in Lake County, Illinois, run by a family who came to farming from science and engineering. They keep Jersey, Brown Swiss and Guernsey cows for milk, Icelandic, Katahdin and Polypay sheep, heritage chickens, Pekin and Khaki ducks, Pearl Gray guinea fowl, and an Anatolian Shepherd called Bria who guards them all. In their own words the animals are rotationally grazed on pasture and supplemented with alfalfa through the winter, and the farm never uses soy, pesticides, hormones, routine antibiotics or unnatural supplements. They eat everything they produce at their own table, which is how they say they hold each product to the same standard. Illinois law does not allow raw milk to be sold without a licence, so the milk goes out through a legal herdshare instead. Members buy a share of the herd once a season, pay a monthly boarding fee that covers their cow's care, feed and milking, and collect about a gallon a week on a prearranged day. Everything else is ordered through the website and collected at the farm, because they offer local pickup only rather than shipping. The shop carries beef and lamb cuts, slow grown chicken and turkey, unwashed free range eggs with duck, quail and guinea fowl eggs through the summer, organic honey and a tallow cream made in house. There are no standard hours, each pickup is arranged with you and most orders can be collected any day of the week. Farm visits are welcome by appointment.
