The best farms

  1. 1All Grass FarmsAll Grass FarmsButcher4.6 (493 reviews)All Grass Farms raises grass fed beef, raw milk, pasture raised poultry, eggs and pork for families across the Midwest from its farm on Route 31 at Dundee in Illinois. The Guernsey dairy herd grazes a rotation of fresh paddocks, and the laying hens follow the cattle through the fields, feeding on insects and working the ground behind them. The farm store is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and weekends from 9am to 5pm, selling raw milk, eggs from hens on organic feed with no soy or corn, poultry, variety packs, and grass fed beef and pastured pork in bulk. There are egg bundles for curbside pickup, plus camps, tours and events on the farm.
  2. 2Prairie Creek PasturesRaw milk farm in Tremont4.9 (90 reviews)Prairie Creek Pastures is a family farm at Tremont, Illinois raising food the regenerative way, because clean food matters to them. The dairy and beef herds are 100% grass fed, the hens are regeneratively pastured on soy free feed, and the pigs and chickens live out on pasture as well. Everything sells through the farm's online store for collection at the farm on your scheduled pickup day. Alongside raw A2A2 milk, beef, pork and chicken there are organs and bones, raw honey, pure Vermont maple syrup, stone milled organic grains and natural soaps and balms.
  3. 3Rocky Road DairyRaw milk farm in Mulberry Grove5 (18 reviews)Rocky Road Dairy is the Snow family's dairy farm at Mulberry Grove, Illinois, milking a herd of registered Brown Swiss cows that are 100% grass fed all day, every day. Brown Swiss suit the grazing life and give milk high in butterfat and protein, which makes for a richer flavour. The milk is sold raw and non homogenised, produced without antibiotics or hormones, on land free of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides. You can buy from the farm from Monday to Saturday, 12pm to 5pm, order through the online shop, or check the website for other stockists.
  4. 4Wild Harts FarmRaw milk farm in Grant Park5 (6 reviews)Wild Harts Farm is the Zelhart family's place in Grant Park, Illinois, where milking cows and sustainable farming are part of the daily rhythm and the family's five children grow up learning the work. Alongside the dairy herd the farm keeps chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, quail, rabbits and turkeys, raised without pesticides or growth hormones. Raw milk is the heart of the business, offered through herdshare memberships run from the Wild Harts Dairy website. Get in touch through the site to join the herdshare or to ask what else is available from the farm.
  5. 5Flat Branch FarmFlat Branch FarmRaw milk farm in Taylorville5 (4 reviews)Flat Branch Farm is a small family farm in rural Taylorville, in Central Illinois, raising food the family are happy to eat themselves. They produce Grade A raw milk from a small dairy herd, grass fed beef, timber raised pork, pastured chicken and free range eggs, along with old fashioned soap, and they are steadily bringing regenerative practices onto the land. Ethical treatment of the livestock matters here, with the animals living out their days grazing in the sunshine. The farm is not open to the public. Milk comes through a raw milk herd share, and meat, eggs and soap are ordered through the online market, with farm pick up for customers who have placed orders. There is no shipping or home delivery at present.
  6. 6Haystack GardensRaw milk farm in GlasfordHaystack Gardens is a family farm in Glasford, Illinois, run by Jeremy and Anna Estabrook and their children. They farm to regenerate the land, building soil health and moving animals across fresh pasture so that plants and livestock work together rather than against each other. The farm sells raw A2/A2 milk through a subscription, and has been a certified raw dairy through the IDPH since fall 2023. There is grass fed beef, lamb and goat meat in limited retail cuts, along with pastured eggs. Everything is collected at the farm in Glasford, and it is worth getting in touch first to join the milk list or check what is available.
