The best farms

  1. 1De Smet DairyDe Smet DairyRaw milk & eggs · Bosque Farms4.8 (182 reviews)De Smet Dairy is a family run dairy at Bosque Farms, New Mexico, and the state's only Grade A dairy farm and bottling facility for raw milk. The cows are free grazing and grass fed all year round, every one of them named individually, and the herd is kept free of hormones, antibiotics and GMOs. They bottle raw milk alongside pasteurised, non homogenised milk and yoghurt, sold at the farm daily and through local stockists. The family also give farm tours, and regulars say someone will even help carry the milk out to your car.
  2. 2Sweet Mercy FarmsSweet Mercy FarmsRaw milk, meat & eggs · Albuquerque4.9 (38 reviews)Sweet Mercy Farms is a small, family owned farm along the Rio Grande Bosque in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The beef is 100% grass fed and grass finished, grazed on hardy drought resistant grasses, and the cattle are never treated with hormones, antibiotics or growth promoting additives. Heritage Yorkshire and Hampshire hogs are raised on grains, and free range chickens supply the farm's eggs. The farm sells direct from its store on Jensen Road, open Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm, with delivery across Albuquerque, shipping throughout New Mexico, and a stand at the Downtown Growers Market from April to November. The dairy shelf is stocked from partner dairies rather than the farm's own herd: raw milk and yogurt from Sunrise Creamery sit alongside pasteurised milk and cream from Rasband Dairy, and the pastured chicken is raised by partner farmers.
  3. 3Arroyo Runs Through ItArroyo Runs Through ItRaw milk & eggs · StanleyArroyo Runs Through It is a micro farm on 10 acres of pinon juniper woodland and native grassland in Stanley, New Mexico, in the east mountains between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Farmers Dylan and Nina run the whole place on rainwater catchment, as there is no well on the property, and raise dairy sheep, rabbits, chickens and ducks. Nina found farming at sixteen through a Vermont goat creamery and has studied animal husbandry around the world through WWOOF. The farm's mission is nourishing food, thoughtfully crafted farm products and meaningful education for its hyper local community. It hosts hands on workshops through the year, from erosion control and small scale community grazing to stew hen processing and cob oven building, and welcomes WWOOF volunteers. A sheep dairy herdshare serving Albuquerque, Cedar Crest and the Cerrillos and Madrid area is listed in the Weston A Price Foundation's raw milk directory.
  4. 4Ojo ConejoOjo ConejoRaw milk, meat & eggsOjo Conejo is a regenerative family farm in Ojo Sarco, New Mexico, producing grass fed dairy and eggs in the high desert. The farm also runs a folk school, with workshops on skills like cow milking and natural cheese making, and offers farm stays. The farm store sells A2A2 grass fed raw milk and raw cream, low PUFA organic eggs, whipped ricotta and small batch ice cream, along with monthly homestead shares that bundle it all together. Orders are delivered to Santa Fe on Wednesdays or collected from the farm, and the store also lists flower bouquets and even cow manure by the truckload.
