Lough Mountain Farm
Lough Mountain Farm is a family farm in the Slieve Aughty mountains near Loughrea, Co. Galway, selling 100% grass fed Angus and Galloway beef and lamb in boxes.
Lough Mountain Farm sits high in the Slieve Aughty mountains at Loughatorick South, outside Loughrea in south east Galway.
Rory O'Reilly and his wife Sarah keep Angus and Galloway cattle and a flock of lambs that graze the native flora of the hill. The animals are fed on grass and grass silage only, never housed indoors for the winter and never given concentrates, and the farm uses mob grazing and tree planting to build the land back. It takes part in the Hen Harrier Project, and says its grassland and wildlife have both improved since.
The meat is sold direct in boxes rather than through a shop. There is a 10kg mixed beef box, a smaller Make Ends Meat box, sides and whole lambs, and the cuts most butchers no longer carry: marrow bones, liver, heart, tongue, ox tail, cheeks and leaf fat. Boxes travel fresh, not frozen, on set delivery dates to all 32 counties, and stop from December to April while the farm waits for spring grass.
