The best farms

  1. 1K&R Farm StoreButcher in Richmond4.8 (45 reviews)K&R Farm Store is the retail arm of K&R Farm, run by first generation farmers Kyle and Roxanne in Richmond, Kentucky. Kyle came to it from horse farming and Roxanne grew up around her family's fruit and vegetable markets, and together they moved into direct to consumer farming so their community could buy food straight from the people who raise it. The store sells the farm's own meat and other farm fresh goods, with livestock raised so they can live and behave naturally. You can shop in store through the week and on Saturdays, and a statewide delivery service carries the farm's products across Kentucky.
  2. 2Three Daughters FarmThree Daughters FarmFarm shop in Williamstown4.9 (24 reviews)Three Daughters Farm raises pasture pork and lamb at Falmouth, Kentucky, with animals living outdoors on grass from birth. Sows farrow out on pasture rather than in gestation crates, free to build nests as they naturally would, and the farm uses no added hormones and no unnecessary antibiotics. Meat sells through the online shop, from chops, bratwurst and spare ribs to seasoned sausage in flavours like chorizo and maple, plus bundle boxes and a winter CSA box. There is also a raw milk herd share and a small line of bath and body care, and the farm opens to customers on weekend afternoons.
  3. 3FFFountain FreshRaw milk farm in Sedalia5 (10 reviews)Fountain Fresh Dairy is a family owned and operated farm in Sedalia, in Western Kentucky. The herd grazes under managed rotation on pastures kept free of pesticides and herbicides, with free choice salt and minerals and local hay when needed, and the goal is healthy, locally grown food passed straight from the farmer to the consumer. Raw milk is offered through the farm's herd share programme, and grass fed beef is sold directly. Contact the farm to join a share or to arrange an order and collection.
  4. 4Baker's Bleating AcresRaw milk farm in Liberty5 (3 reviews)Baker's Bleating Acres is a small family farm in south central Kentucky, home to registered Jersey cows, Nigerian Dwarf goats, Muscovy ducks and a variety of chicken breeds. The family is working towards a more self sufficient way of living and shares what it learns through hands on classes and workshops at the farm. Raw cow and goat milk is offered through herd shares, with value added dairy available to members. The onsite farm store, The Milkhouse Market, stocks seasonal fruit and vegetables, local meat and eggs, fresh honey, jams and jellies, artisan bread and baked goods, natural apothecary items and the farm's own goat's milk soap. It opens Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
  5. 5Crafted by LindbergCrafted by LindbergRaw milk farm in BoonevilleCrafted by Lindberg is a small family run farm in Booneville, Kentucky offering raw cows milk, which they call Local Dairy, through a herd share programme. That is how raw milk legally works in Kentucky, so members buy a share of the herd and pay a monthly boarding fee that covers the feeding, care and milking of the cows. A full share brings roughly four gallons of milk a month, or butter in its place, and a half share brings about two gallons. To join, fill in the herd share agreement form on the website and the farm will get in touch to confirm payment and sort out your share of the herd.
  6. 6Genesis Family FarmGenesis Family FarmRaw milk farm in Olive HillGenesis Family Farm is worked by the Wolf family in the rolling hills of Olive Hill, Kentucky, growing nutrient dense food for their own table and the wider community. Rotational pasturing and multi species grazing keep the animals living naturally while building fertility back into the soil. Farming here is a matter of faith as much as livelihood, with a verse from Psalm 104 as the family's guide. Milk and other farm produce are sold from the farm on weekdays, so phone ahead to check what is available before you make the trip.
  7. 7Royalty Rock FarmRoyalty Rock FarmRaw milk farm in Bowling GreenRoyalty Rock Farm is a small family farm in Alvaton, Kentucky, milking A2A2 Jersey cows twice a day. The herd rotationally grazes a 12 acre pasture with free choice hay, is kept without vaccines, hormones or antibiotics, and the milk is strained into glass bottles and chilled straight away. Raw milk comes through a six month herdshare, with members collecting a gallon a week from the farm. The family also runs a children's farm school and takes bookings for individual farm visits, so families can meet the cows and see where their milk comes from.
  8. 8Lara Cattle CompanyLara Cattle CompanyRaw milk farm in ShelbyvilleLara Cattle Company is a family run dairy farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky, run by Savannah and Gus with their daughter Wrenley growing up around the cows. They milk their Jersey herd twice a day and bottle the raw milk on the farm for herdshare members, feeding the cows a non soy, non GMO ration. What began with a few show cows has grown into a proper working herd. Milk is collected at the farm through the herdshare scheme, with a self service honesty box open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and delivery can be arranged as well. Phone or email to ask about joining.
