  1. 1Poplar Hill Dairy Goat FarmPoplar Hill Dairy Goat FarmRaw milk · Scandia5 (27 reviews)Poplar Hill Dairy Goat Farm in Scandia is Minnesota's oldest Grade A dairy goat farm, run by the Maefsky family and producing fresh goat milk since 1972. The farm keeps four breeds, Alpines, Nubians, Saanens and Toggenburgs, every one registered with the American Dairy Goat Association, and the herd has been on DHIA milk test for more than fifty consecutive years. The association honoured the family with its Pioneer Award in 2018, and the owners are in the Minnesota Livestock Breeders Hall of Fame. The goat milk sold in stores across the upper Midwest is fresh pasteurised milk with no preservatives, antibiotics or growth hormones, while fresh raw goat milk is also sold direct from the farm by phone order. The farm makes national award winning goat milk soap from its own milk, sells goat cheese that placed at the Minnesota State Fair, breeds registered dairy goats shipped across the country, and runs guided farm tours by appointment.

Pickup runs 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 3pm on Sunday, paid in cash at a box by the milk fridge. The family also sells grass fed beef, born and raised in their own pastures, by the whole, half or quarter. Customers reserve an animal, call their cutting order in to the local butcher by Hamburg, and fill a freezer with steaks, roasts and ground beef at one flat price per pound of hanging weight. Everything is arranged directly with Amy by text or phone, and the farm walks new members through their first pickup.

The A2 herd is raised on pasture without hormones, antibiotics, GMOs or soy, and the family follows the cleaning and testing standards recommended by the Raw Milk Institute. As Minnesota law requires, raw milk is bought at the farm itself: customers reserve ahead, bring their own jars and collect during farm store hours, with a waitlist when winter production drops. In May 2026 the spring cows calved and the waitlist cleared. The store also carries pastured eggs, raw honey, maple syrup, pastured pork, chicken and beef, open Monday afternoons, Wednesday and Friday mornings and some Saturdays.

The animals eat a diet of non GMO grains and the chickens and beef graze on pasture, and the family raise the same meat they put on their own dinner table. Whole chickens, pork, beef and pasture raised turkeys can be preordered by the season, and the farm also sells at local farmers markets in Lindstrom, Scandia and Burnett County.

  • 18Chris Creek RanchChris Creek RanchRaw milk · GreenbushChris Creek Ranch sits on County Road 103 outside Greenbush, in the far northwest corner of Minnesota, and is run by Cole and Brooke Christianson. Cole's grandparents, Ray and Lillian Christianson, started Chris Creek Dairy here in 1963 with 30 cows and milked for 30 years. Ray died in 2017, and Cole began buying the ranch around that time. Cole and Brooke married in July 2022, and today the place carries cattle, Katahdin sheep, horses, almost 30 free range chickens and a jersey guernsey milk cow. Raw milk is sold at the farm gate. It is whole and unskimmed, from a three quarter jersey, one quarter guernsey cow that is calf shared, so the cream she gives varies through the season while she is raising a calf. Customers bring their own glass gallon or half gallon jars and collect at the ranch. Alongside the milk, the family keeps purebred Herefords and a commercial cattle herd and sells bulls as breeding stock, Brooke breeds AKC registered Australian Cattle Dogs and brought her own dog program, Borderview Aussies, to the ranch when they married, and there is a small skincare line under the Chris Creek Ranch label: whipped tallow balm in lavender chamomile and vanilla latte, and a vanilla bean tallow lip balm.
