  1. 1Gibson's Farm ShopGibson's Farm ShopFarm shop in Canterbury4.3 (1493 reviews)Gibson's Farm Shop stands at Little Crockshard Farm outside Wingham, near Canterbury, where the Gibson family has farmed for four generations. Bob and Win Gibson began selling apples and pears direct from the farm in 1970, and the purpose built shop that opened in 2010 has grown into a bakery, butchery, deli, dairy, fruit and veg, drinks, florist, garden centre and cafe, with the stated objective of acting as a storefront for Kent producers. The butchery is the farm's own: free range Aberdeen Angus beef, pork and lamb reared at home, home cured ham and bacon, and sausages made from their own pigs with high meat content in natural casings. Jeff Gibson rears the cows, pigs and sheep and grows a large proportion of their feed, while local suppliers fill the shelves around them, from Kingcott Dairy cheeses to Woodlands free range eggs.

The shop opened in a converted farm building in May 1990 and sells the farm's own seasonal fruit and vegetables within hours of harvest. Alongside its homegrown produce the shop stocks selected fresh produce from other local farms, plus local meats, cheeses, eggs, bread, cakes and artisan foods from named Kent producers, and local wine, gin, cider and beer. Seasonal events run through the year, including pick your own cobnuts, pumpkins at Halloween and a Christmas market.

The farm shop began in the 1980s in a converted potato shed and now fills a converted oasthouse, selling the farm's own seasonal produce alongside chutneys, cheeses, wines and meats from small Kent producers. The farm was originally a 40 acre apple orchard, and Joyce Barnes planted the first third of an acre of vines as apple prices declined in the late 1960s. Today the second and third generations of the family run a single estate of 23 acres of gentle south facing slopes just outside the Wealden village of Biddenden, growing 12 different grape varieties. Around 80,000 bottles are produced each year, and all vine work on the estate, from pruning and canopy management to picking, is still carried out by hand, with harvest running from mid September through to November. The vineyard shop sells the estate's white, rose, red and sparkling English wines alongside its ciders and pressed apple juices, and visitors can walk the vines on open, guided and self guided tours through the year.

Beyond the butchery counter the shelves carry farm fresh vegetables, local cheeses and milk, ice cream, cakes, jams and chutneys, and everyday items, along with an off licence of local still and sparkling wines, ciders and beers. The shop also supplies logs, coal and pet food. It trades as Kent Farm Gate Foods Limited and is open seven days a week.
  9. 9Pluckley Farm ShopPluckley Farm ShopFarm shop in Ashford4.7 (119 reviews)Pluckley Farm Shop opened in 2010 in the Kent village of Pluckley, founded by a former lawyer whose family have farmed these villages for centuries, with a family tree reaching back to a blacksmith in Hothfield in the late 1600s. What began as a village farm shop grew roots of its own: the family diversified into rearing pigs and moved to their own farm, Dering Farm, in 2021. The famous Pluckley pork is reared in large outdoor paddocks, the pigs fed fruit and veg alongside organic, GM free pig nuts, with no fertilisers or pesticides used on the land and no steroids or antibiotics routinely given. The shop on Smarden Road sells the farm's own pork alongside freshly baked bread, dairy, fresh fruit and veg, cheese, meat, local beers, wines and spirits, locally made ice cream and bespoke hampers, all sourced from the farm or the local area. The founder's sister Marie has worked in the shop since it opened, with farm shop dog Murphy roaming the farm.
  10. 10Loddington Farm ShopLoddington Farm ShopFarm shop in Maidstone4.7 (109 reviews)Loddington Farm is a fifth generation family farm in the Kent countryside near Maidstone, run by James Smith, whose great great grandfather first grew apples on the land. The farm has turned away from chemical farming: no synthetic fertilisers or herbicides are applied to the soils, fungicides and insecticides are being phased out, and the focus is on rebuilding soil ecosystems and growing nutrient dense food, with apples and pears still at the heart of the farm alongside the Owlet fruit juice pressed on site. The award winning farm shop opened in January 2024 and was named among The Times 35 best farm shops in Britain. It sells as much of the farm's own fresh produce as the season allows, plus the farm's own eggs, slow grown native breed pork reared outdoors, venison and juice, alongside food and drink from carefully selected Kent producers. A cafe in the courtyard behind the shop serves breakfast and lunch.
